Anticipation - Friend or FoeFollow

#1 Aug 16 2007 at 2:59 PM Rating: Default
So I was wondering... I´ve seen a lot of prot talents on the forum, and at all the topics, there is eventually someone that says that `Anticipation is a waste of talent points´.

20 defense skill (at 5/5) a waste? Someone explain that to me, please.

once you get past 490 defense from gear and become uncrittable many people will skip that talent since they do not need the defense anymore. some people however choose to still take it because it still adds to the dodge/parry/block chance.

i think i only had 5/5 for the first couple weeks in kara. once you get a nice cushion above 490 you can put the points elsewhere (like cruelty)

for me the question is always 2/2 bloodrage or 2/5 anticipation, and i always go anticipation because the extra def skill usually translates into one more piece of dps (+hit) gear for the trash or easy bosses, and you can't have too much defense for the hard ones.

I totally agree with Axhed. While you're gearing up, Anticipation is definitely your friend. It's a great way to get you to 490 defense without having to run too many instances, and can get you into a Kara group that much earlier.

Once you can get 490 defense from gear alone, it becomes less usefull. As Axhed said, if you have a good piece of +hit gear that you can put on, such that you won't miss your special attacks, then by all means keep it. Otherwise your talent points could probably be spent better elsewhere.

Even if you don't get the benefit of the crit avoidance from having more than 490 defense skill, it still provides the miss/dodge/parry/block % that are very useful.

20 defense skill = 0.8% miss, dodge, parry, block. Which is 2.4% avoidance, and some block. For 5 talent points, that's ok... 5/5 deflection is superior.

Weigh which is more useful for you, 2.4% avoidance, or 6 more rage on demand and 15 more rage between stances.
