Questions about Druids at 70Follow

#1 Aug 16 2007 at 2:01 PM Rating: Default
My druid just hit 40 and I've started to plan which direction I'm going to take him. I could use some advice and some questions answered to help the process. I looked in the sticky and didn't see anything about these questions, but I have to admit that I skimmed certain posts after the first few big ones.

First, is there a best tree for end-game pvp? I grouped up with a level 70 druid healer who really impressed me, and he told me was in an 1800+ arena team, which I have heard is a somewhat respectable rating. So that kind of sways Resto in my favor, but I also really enjoy Feral, but I'm just not sure how viable it would be in high-rated arenas and level 70 BGs. I have no clue about Balance.

Second, which leatherworking* spec works the best with Druids? I have heard Tribal is best for Resto, Dragonscale is not for Druids, and the third (Elemental?) is best for Feral. Is this reasonably true?

* Yes, I understand leatherworking is a money sink and there may be more profitable ways of going about it, but I want an endgame Leatherworker just to have one, I already have two enchanters and I don't struggle with money at all.

Yes elemental is the third.
And yes this is reasonably true.

I'm new to 70 and not a real PvP guy so I'm not the best source of info/opinion here, but here's my two cents FWIW. The game is (or should be) about playing for your own enjoyment, right? So since you enjoy feral stick with it, see how you do and if you find yourself sucking consider respec'ing. Or, you've got SO far to go before you need to worry about end-game, respec a few times during the leveling process to see if you like the others anywhere near as much as feral. Either way don't worry about which of the three specs is "best"...they're so different you might as well ask yourself what CLASS is best for end-game.

Your leatherworking info is correct as far as the specialties go.

With regard to PvP, just go with whichever playstyle you prefer. If you prefer feral, there is no point speccing Balance and not enjoying it as much. Played smart, any driud can be a force to be reckoned with in arena or BG's.

I've come across poorly geared druids in arenas that have nailed me so badly through use of all their forms. Natures Grasp, cyclone, hibernate, feral charge, maim. We really are an annoying class at times :)

Just to throw my 2cp in around level 70 PVP action.

I've tried all three "pure" specs and a bunch of hybrid specs in PVP and they all have their pluses and minuses. I 100% agree that whatever you enjoy playing the most is what you should continue to play.

That being said however... I've found, for me, that feral is by far the most fun way to play in the BGs. Nothing has given me greater satisfaction then being able to actually make people run away from me on a regular basis.

When I was specced balance I could seriously mess people up and it was fun, but I just always felt like I was missing something. When I went restro/hybrid restro I was a seriously badass healer, and it was awesome fun keeping everyone alive where ever I chose to play. However, since I like PVP and PVE I had to stick with feral. Specced feral in PVE I can tank anything, dps anything and still provide pretty damn good healing. (Better collect that healing set though.) I know that I'll never be main healing instances, but I'm not sure even if I was specced restro I could do it. (Guess healing isn't my strong suit.)

Now in arena it is a totally different matter. No matter which bracket in arena you go if you REALLY want to provide the maximum benefit to your team I strongly feel that you need to go almost full restro or balance/restro. In 2v2 you need to CC and keep your partner alive via heals. In 3v3 the same and in 5v5 it's almost essential if you can heal that you are in fact healing.

This is in NO way saying that you can't do other things. I for one stick with my Feral build and manage to reek a LOT of trouble by slapping on my healing gear, rooting/cycloning/pouncing/charging etc etc but I'm no where near as helpful for my team as when I respecced restro.

As almost anyone that reads these boards regularly will tell you, if you aren't using all your forms/spells etc etc then you aren't playing your druid as a druid. Nothing could be more true then in arena.

Perfect example, my team (who isn't all that good) went up against another 5v5 that had two feral druids as members. They only shifted out of cat once and it was when they were almost dead and were trying to heal themselves. I kept both of them locked down almost the whole fight by switching between cyclone and hibernate, it was really really sad.

I've seen amazing restro druids in 5v5 and amazing balance druids in 5v5 but have never, not a single time, not ONCE seen a feral druid doing traditionally "feral druid" things whose team won.

Long and the short, in my opinion, feral rocks for BG/PVE but can't be played as a feral in Arena.

Thanks for the replies. I figured Resto would be best for Arenas. Now to actually get it to 70 and find an arena team. I would take my warrior into arenas, but I've geared him as a tank and I'm going to start MTing raids soon, so I'd rather just get my Druid up and arena him instead.
