Thanks for you help with my blast wave question. I have another one for you mighty mages (as I kneel and bow to the all knowing).

When I was a newb mage....well ok I'm still a newb mage, but when I was an uber-newb mage I was getting way too many resists. I was told by a friend to start out as a frost mage so I did and once I got the 3 points into elemental precision the resists went down drastically.

Well, I wanted to try fire when I hit ~low 20s but since I still remembered all of those resists I put 3/3 into elemental precision and then went fire. The problem with this is that it takes me 3 additional level to get certain talents such as blast wave, soon to be combustion (which looks freaking awesome) and eventually Dragon's Breath.

So my question to you all, should I respec to move those 3 points out of elemental precision and into my fire tree so I can get the talents at an earlier level? I fear I just got discouraged, now that I think about it, when one group of same level mobs resisted about 1/2 of my spells.

Frost spells are all or nothing, full damage or full resist.

Some fire spells are binary (Dragon's breath has a stun/daze effect) and may be either all or none because of that, but I am not sure.

hmmm didn't know that about frost spells. I think it was frost spells that were being resisted. I recall one pull started with frostbolt-resist, 2nd bolt-resit, Frost nova-Resist....run (thinking this sucks, I can't kill a same level humanoid mob as me). I bet I just got unlucky, though I do still wish to know when fire locks put points into elemental precision.

I just may have to live with the fact that I won't get Combustion until level 43 or dragons breath until level 53.

I am at level 70, never had elemental precision. I am not promoting it, just saying I don't have it and I do pretty well, though I mostly PvP.

if you start raiding you will want ever % chance against them resisting as possible.

Yes, when I raid actually I switch from my Elemental Build to Deep Fire and pick up EP. My inane point was it isn't for PvP.

I got it when I started AOE grinding, to stop resists on frost novas. Other than that, it has been in all my lvl 70 builds, save 33/28/0 and 4x/2x/0

When you are aiming for PvP and manage to get +3% to hit from gear only.. then use the talent points elsewhere. If not.. I would not recomend to skip this talent It can be a life saver :D Literally.. resisted fire blast when oponent has low hp and you are oom..

Semi-on topic... Does that 3% chance they won't resist frost/fire spells go under your spell hit? For instance, if you had 6% chance to hit, would it go to 9% for a frost/fire spell?

Yes it does.

Zebug, it's a useful talent if you're planning to kill things your level or higher on a consistent basis. If you prefer to kill things that are a level or two lower(as many do), then the talent isn't nearly as helpful.

Getting the other talents earlier is definitely helpful, however.

Thanks The One and Only Poldaran, and the rest of you. I will keep it as I am always fighting yellow mobs and just wait to gain the extra skills from talents for those 3 levels.
