Warlock Build - 31/0/20(1)Follow

#1 Aug 14 2007 at 4:54 PM Rating: Decent
Hello

I made this warlock build, mostly copied from an very old build which now seems to not function anymore. anyway iam new to WOW and i have only played as a warlock so far(VERY content so wont be switching soon). I rather not focus on have a very strong pet because.. well i just dont. So i rather go for a nice damage doing build. I first thought Destruction would be awsome but Afflication seems to make me a have HP and MANA max all the freaking time with the high Drains aswell as Dark Pact. Combine that with nice DOTs and well i had a winner. I spend the remaining points on Destruction. Its made for a level 60 charater so the last point in destruction wont happen till i get the expansion.

First of all, please use a talent calculator and link to your build, it is easier for people to look at.

Looks like your going for a good old fashioned SM/Ruin build there. Not a bad idea, but you need a lot of +crit gear for it to work well. If you want to go with it still, that's fine, however, you need a few minor changes.

First off, both Imp CoW and Imp CoA are pretty worthless, taking both of them even more so. You will only be using one curse at a time, so points in both is a waste. You'll find you'll mostly use CoA, however, the damage on that curse is all back-loaded, therefore, so is the bonus. Most of the bonus is in the last few ticks and the curse rarely runs it's full course.

Also, you took Dark Pact, so Imp. Life Tap will be fairly worthless, once you get that far I'd re-spec and take it out.

You left out 1/5 in Shadow Embrace and Empowered Corr. Both very useful. Shadow Embrace counts as an Affliction Effect, one more this for players to dispel and increases Drain Life through Soul Siphon. Emp Corr not so much until after 40 when you actually start to see some +Spell Dam gear, but still better than your other options. CoEx is also useful for kiting players or elites.

This is probably a better choice for an SM/Ruin build:

I'd also like to say, that most people agree, w/o the +crit gear a UA build will do better than a SM/Ruin. For Affliction, I'd follow the same route, then get contagion, IHoT and UA. Increase to Corr and CoA, your most common DoTs, and instant cast AoE fear, and another DoT. Follow up with a splash of Demo for a beefed up Imp and extra Sta, like so:

Well, company just got here, hope this info helps, any other questions just ask and I'll answer tommorow at work.

SM/Ruin was THE build to go with before TBC. I resisted respeccing from it for a long time (I was a level 60 long before TBC, and SM ruin was my build), just because I loved Ruin. I occasionally still feel the pain of loss. What I finally came up with was a UA/DR build for myself (43/0/18), because I wanted UA. In my personal build, I've omitted some talents that others find "absolutely necessary" and have other talents thet others find "wasted". It works for me, but won't work for everyone.

I've come to the realization that you have to do one of two things: Either you have to make your build suit your style of play, or you have to modify the way you play to suit your build. As my play style has evolved, my build has changed. It has changed the most in the 58-70 period than at any other time (6 respeccs, 2 of them free), as I change. Either I will drop something to free up points to put somewhere, or I will change my style to use a talent I have but don't use much. It feels evolutionary, and it is. Make your build work with you, and you will be one very happy 'lock.

Ummm - level 60? You have one too many points invested. You'll have to drop Dark Pact for the traditional SM/Ruin Spec. At 60, you only have 51 talent points available.

If your going that far in Destro, you should get Ruin, otherwise it isn't worth it. At 60, you cannot get Ruin and Dark Pact, hence why I posted the second build I did, it allows you to get Dark Pact, and gives you 2 more points of your choice to spend. Honestly, I also would not even look at level 60 builds as once you get to 60, you will have nothing to do w/o the expansion anyway. It is very difficult to find people to run through pre-TBC content.
