Hello all.

My guild has announced that tanks need to have very high frost or nature resist gear for a boss in SSC. My question is this: What gear should I be looking for and still keeping my 415 defense? I currently have 414 defense and plenty of Res gear to make up for the last point. As I look around I cant see much that I can swap out for this huge amount of resist gear that I am supposed to have and keep myself useful as a tank. Any comments?

Thanks.

Mattimer

For these fights you need a lot of resist & a lot of stam. ALL the damage is either frost or nature damage so defense & armor are not as useful.

Just look on the AH and pick up BOE greens with high stam & resist, there are quite a few decent pieces available. Just search the AH for 'of frost protection"

As usual the Dragonhawk .... of frost protection is the best, but there are plenty of others that are only a few points less Frost Resistance.

Sadly, the Hydross fight in SSC doesn't allow druid main tanks nearly as much as two warrior tanks. While there are leather fire resistance and shadow resistance pieces on par with the plate for those tanking specialties, there simply don't exist leather pieces comparable to the Iceguard and Wildguard sets. A mix of BoE "of frost protection" and "of nature protection", as RareBeast said, along with certain crafted rings and necklaces (or more "of ___ protection" in those slots) can gear a druid to be a solid off-tank, handling the summoned adds on both sides of that fight.

With all the damage in that fight being frost or nature, it's unclear to me whether defense rating matters. The damage comes from physical-style attacks, not just spells, so it would seem that it might. Can anybody provide a citation to a trusted source to resolve this?

I was going by Wowwiki which says that both Hydross and his adds hit for frost & nature damage. Certainly, for a druid tank to have any decent resistance, there is no way we can reach the defense cap, so we are going to be crittable no matter what.

You don't need to keep 415 defense to be an off tank for Hydross. The one time I had to off tank Hydross I pretty much was wearing all green leather frost/nature resist gear (and 1 blue). I didn't even have the crafted neck/ring pieces. If you're going to be off tanking on a regular basis then it's probably a good idea to get them crafted though.
