Quite simply: is there any good reason to get the Sentinel's Blade (dagger) for your MH and the Protector's Sword (sword, duh) for your OH?

With nearly identical dps, wouldn't the extra poison procs off a faster OH weapon be a major advantage? Even, for argument's sake, if you don't factor in the extra procs, is there any advantage to having the sword in your offhand?

Seems to me (at this level anyway) you're either a sneaky backstab/ambush build or you're swords (in which case you'd want two swords anyway). Please tell me what I'm missing here.

edit: I suppose based on my extra procs argument that there may be circumstances in a swords build where you might want sword MH and dagger OH. Thoughts?

No responses b/c the answer to my question is embarrassingly obvious...or b/c I have an annoying tendency to attempt to answer my own questions as I ask them?

And did I just do it again?

Perhaps I'm retarded, but that post is kind of hard to... understand.

Anyway, the reason you want a fast offhand is because of the talent combat potency, which you have a 20% chance to regain 15 energy on a offhand attack. The faster your offhand hits, the higher than chance of an energy gain.

Like you mentioned, it's also nice to have a fast offhand for poison procs, as something much, much slower is going to yield much less damage being in the offhand (offhand penalty) and will not be able to proc extra attacks as often.

I don't know what you're really asking though...
Did I even answer your question??

Doh. Yeah I suppose that's what happens when one tries to answer one's own question instead of just asking the damn question already. I think I rolled a handful of concepts/questions into one or two half-complete thoughts. My Eng Lit prof would CS/Gouge/Muti me for sure.

At the end of the day, I was just wondering whether I should get 2xSentinel Blades or 1 Sentinel and 1 Protector's Sword (given my non-swords build). And then also the reasoning behind it. Buddy of mine ended up going dagger(MH)/sword(OH) with his WSG marks and it just didn't make any sense to me.

Regardless, your response is appreciated, Elyn. You answered one part of my question and also told me about something I didn't know (Combat Potency). tyvm!

Well, to start since its a level 28 build, forget about combat potency. At 28 you can't even branch into any particular spec of weapon in the combat tree besides daggers and you would have to give up dual wield spec. The reason for a sword offhand would be for the damage range on the sword. The dagger is 25-47 damage and the sword is 40-75 damage. So you will get harder hits with the sword even though they have the same dps.

Hmmm so it makes sense that the sword hits harder per hit, but does that matter in your offhand? I thought all your instant attacks were based on your main hand. For example, does Eviscerate hit with both weapons or just your main?

Thanks again. I'm really enjoying my little rogue and am starting to creep up the dmg charts in BGs. Just want to keep that movement going!

This all depends on your build: if you're a dagger (backstab/ambush) rogue, you're going to want two daggers, because a slow offhand isn't good. If you're going Combat Swords you're going to want a sword in the main hand, and hopefully another sword in the offhand, although it's perfectly fine to have a dagger in the offhand.

If you're going daggers, you'd have 2 daggers, as I've already said, so 2 sentinel blades would be a great idea...there's only one problem: the Sentinel Blades and Protector's Sword are unique. You'd have to go with that and another dagger. You're already 29 so it would be hard, but I helped my friend get Torturing Poker. He now used Torturing Poker and Sentinels Blade, and he's doing great in BGs.

If you're going swords, protectors sword isn't that bad of an idea..but it's also smart to have a fast offhand. So if you're going to have a fast offhand, I'd prefer to have a main hand with better stats: agility preferably. But that's totally up to you.

I hope that cleared some things up for you ;)

Reading your post again with some other posts, I have a better idea of what you're looking for.

Seeing your sig, it's obvious that this rogue is a twink.
My suggestion to you would be to get Sentinel's Blade for your MH and offhand a dagger of your choice...

My suggestions would be:

Vendetta
Toxic Revenger
Claw of the Shadowmancer

Stick both with 15 agility enchant and expect some high ambush/backstab crits.

Just suggestions.

Not enough cash to fund a twink (my 70 is on a different server), unfortunately, and anyway I'm having too much fun playing my rogue to stop at 29. Just one lvl away from a vicious shot to the kidneys! :)

So I think all my questions have indeed been answered and I thank you both. Unfortunately you both raised another question in my mind. I didn't pick up any pvp items prior to 70 on my main so I don't know exactly what you mean by "unique" pvp rewards. Are you saying that I can't wield two Sentinel Blades at the same time??? How terribly disappointing if so.

If you look at the blade underneath the title it will say
"Unique"

Whenever an item says it's unique only one if it can be equipped.

Generally applies to rings, trinkets, and weapons where more than one can be equipped in the first place.

Argh! Ah well ***** it, time to start leveling again. Thanks for the suggestions on non-pvp dagger drops. I'll have to hit up the Gnome Home here a few times, see if that Toxic Revenger drops

you said you can't resist Kidney Shot (neither can I >D) which you get at 30? I forget, but if it is at 30...you could always do the 39 bgs ;) combat swords is a nice way to go there because you can get Vanquisher's Sword and..um, I forget what the ally sword is, but if you were Horde you could have that and Sword of Omen. Since you're ally though, you can use Vanquisher's Sword and Black Menace which is a dagger (you prolly don't know what I'm talking about? vanquisher's sword off the quest from RFD, the dagger/sword off the quest from SM where you have to kill the bosses.) Pretty nice combo; plus the fact that you get Kidney Shot, nice quest rewards and the first epics, and the first BG bracket you can use BC enchants in ;) you can give it a try, but rogues are fun and it's more than ok to keep going

w00t! I'm happy to report a successful romp in SM GY this evening lead to the rather quick acquisition of Torturing Poker. Pretty sure that link didn't work. Oh well.

A couple of guildies were kind enough to help me through. None of us had been in GY in a while, so we'd forgotten how conveniently close to the entrance Vishas is. Dropped on the third time in--very lucky. Funny lookin' little dagger but it packs a punch.

Thanks for all the help guys.

edit: Ha, the link did work. Just doesn't work in the Preview Message function. Now I know.
