Leatherworking or Enchanting for Endgame?Follow

I was looking at endgame proffesions, I know the first one will be Engineering for Jumper Cables and the Deathblow X11 Goggles, but I couldn't decide between Leatherworking and Enchanting.

For easy math I just used 1 Str as 2 AP ignoring buffs and HotW.
Tunic of Assasination with 3 Bold Living Ruby versus Primalstrike Vest -
Primalstrike gives 10 Agl 6 AP 12 Hit 87 AC and 18 Stam over the Tunic.

Enchanting's +8 to stats would make the difference 2 Agl -10 AP 12 Hit 87 AC and 10 Stam.

So with my current chest Leatherworking is better, but Enchanting will continue to benefit me after I have a better chest and will also benefit my tanking and healing suits.

However, my server isn't too advanced, the best Horde guild had a party in Shattrath a few weeks ago for the first Magtheridon killing.

They just seem rather equal...any advice?

Either is good, though remember that Enchanting eats your money, while Leatherworking gives you money...

Though if you're in a guild, Enchanting helps your guild more.

Sorry BT, I don't want to look like I'm contradicting you every time, but that's the reverse. Enchanting is a huge moneymaker, maybe the best in the game, disenchanting is simply the best "gathering" skill there is. You can also get ring enchants, a few nice trinkets (even at 70 a trinket like Smoking Heart of the Mountain is really good for a druid tank) and it will benefit your guild.

I have a bias against LW because I think it's not all that good, most of the useful stuff is BoE and will sell for less than the mats. There are a few BoP items worth having, but not many. And it takes an enourmous (as in HUGE) amount of money to skill it up to 375.

Also having Engineering _and_ LW means 2 craft skills to skill up and no gathering skill - you'd better be rich to start with! Where as Enchanting could help if used right.

Anyway I still like Alchemy/Herba more :)

Not a problem anathor, I actually quite like the exchange of views. =)

I tried Enchanting before, and I found that while many people liked my enchants, they usually get mats of their own, so they don't tip. And the enchanting mats' cost in my servers jump a lot, which makes me having to predict a lot on the mats when I disenchant.

Leatherworking at least gives me something to sell off the AH, so while the lower recipes aren't worth much, the higher ones at least do bring some gold.

And I didn't see that he got Engineering as one profession, my apologies for that. Suggestion to take mining to fuel your Engineering, so at least you would get a pretty good gathering skill too, not to mention the large cost it would bring otherwise. Engineering stuff don't sell well you know.

Enchanting mats have the advantage that they can be put at the AH without paying a deposit (since they have no vendor value). Furthermore, the AH is the "gathering field" for disenchanting, and as many others have shown before, it's possible to make a lot of money this way, with minimum risk. since the deposit is 0, you can put the mats every day until they sell, no matter what.

Seems like, given unlimited time and money, the way to go would be to level up LW, get the pieces out of it you want to use, then scrap it for enchanting, level that up, and use it to enchant everything you have. Then keep enchanting to make back some of the thousands of gold you just spent.

QFT

Anathor and I have shared views on Leatherworking before, and depending on where in the leveling process I've been my view has admittedly wavered but I've usually championed its cause. No mas! I have seen the light. The above statement is 100% true. The only good thing about leatherworking is that it's fun to make your own stuff, and wearing multiple pieces of self-crafted armor has sustained me through the unfun stretches of leatherleveling, but it is NOT mathematically/financially solid.

There's stretches where you can level easily/cheaply thanks to trainable patterns with cheap mats, and others that SUCK. 300-355 was a great ride so I've been a big fan for a while, but now at 361 I'm spending (read=wasting) boatloads of cash making stuff I could get cheaper on AH, and I'm honestly thinking of dropping LW for...you guessed it, enchanting. (or more accurately, disenchanting)

I have 375 Enchanting & Leatherworking. I can say from the experience that leveling LW took much longer and was much more expensive than enchanting. The mats for each item from about 360-370 was almost 100g per point!

Enchanting, there is always someone who has their own mats who needs an enchant that will give you a skill up. I tend to think that enchanting is the better way to go. You end up with a lot of mats yourself from DE'ing stuff, so your enchants are a lot cheaper and the ring enchants are a nice bonus (don't forget druids also have a use for the healing ring enchants as well!)

One profession I am leveling on one of my alts is alchemy. I have been buying mats for elixirs & pots on the AH and getting a guildy to make them for me. I can usually buy the mats for 20 for the price of 5 elixirs/pots on the AH! Sounds like a good money maker to me, just buy mats, make the pots & post on the AH for cash! If nothing else, it'll make raiding a bit cheaper for me
