Tri-Mage PVE Spec - Will it work?Follow

#1 Aug 10 2007 at 12:16 PM Rating: Default
Just speculating, but heres a tri-spec i whipped up. mainly solo grinding/questing in mind. obviously not a great raid/pvp build but could work OK in either i guess - pvp has PoM/pyro combo for burst, some good raid talents in there too but there are better builds specific to each function obviously

http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=of0Ec0czZVxrz0cZbhGos0xo

The main idea of this build is to have a bit of AOE damage when its needed, but also has the added ability of killing a single target fast. Mana effitiency isn't the MOST important thing but is covered with a few talents

Frost tree is mainly for the Ice Block talent for defense and Shatter for crit boost to ALL spells.

improved Arcane Explosion for synergy with frost nova freeze and shatter - very high crit chance with Arcane Explosion and Shatter for super mana effitient DPS against 3+ enemies

PoM/ Pyroblast for burst damage, Scorch/Fireblast for fast recharging high crit chance single target DPS combined with the extra crit chance from shatter and the extras damage from ignitie this SHOULD serve good nuf single target DPS

Cone of Cold will be the primary "Chilling" spell to trigger the freeze proc, frost nova is obvious for proc. freeze for shatter

master of elements (combined with the extra crit chance talents), magic absorption and arcane concentration, arcane meditation serve to keep mana flowing at a pretty constant rate (4 mana effitiency talents BETTER keep the mana pool overflowing considering we have evocation also)

Interesting idea you have there. I would like to point out that you are, first of all, better putting the two points you put into 'frost warding' into improved frostbolt as it is one of the most useless talents.

I don't know, it seems like you are trying to do too much that you would be better off focusing on one tree (frost or fire) and then add in arcane, or take out arcane all together and do an elemental build (which hasn't been as powerful since BC from what I understand). The problem is that there are many good talents available that must be skipped over in order to have the be-all-end-all tree that is kind of the mediocore build all around, but not best of any tree.

Well, I guess since someone mentioned me I should look at it.

About the only real use I could see for it would be to have a build to farm both Primal Fire and Primal water. And even then, there are other ways I'd go for that.

The build lacks focus, overall. Burst AoE could indeed use a tri-spec, but I'd build it differently.

You'll get higher mana efficiency from a 2 tree spec than what you'll see from Shatter/AE. Especially since MoE doesn't affect AE. http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=of0Ec0czxGziZZbhGos0xo would be one way to go for that.

Having PoM Pyro is nice, but it's better when your Pyro hits for more. Again, need deeper in Arcane or Fire for that. Ice Block is nice as well, but you're giving up to much for it and shatter with the rest of your build.

Magic absorption isn't a mana efficiency talent unless you put on resist gear and go farm something that hits with that school only(then it's godly).

Over all, I'm gonna say it's a build that lacks direction and thus will not likely produce the results of another, more focused build.

I like to hit things from as far away as possible allowing me more time to cast again. This build has skipped over all abilities that increase range. Range is good!!!! I see the goal but not too sure if this will work out very well. Seems a little stretched thin. Interested to see the results posted though if you try it out. Best of luck.

Yes, I agree with both Anobix and Poldoran. You just cannot tri-spec and get any real benifit. It's logical, because you are just not getting down the trees far enough. Two trees are enough.

My current spec is, with 2 pieces of the Aldor Set (I say this because the set bonus of not being interrupted helps me a lot):

http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/mage/talents.html?0000000000000000000000055523201000003105310510520323000004000000000

I love elemental, and I am trying to prove Anobix's statement wrong with my build. Although my spell rotation is entirely fire, the frost aspect serves as a crit machine. I mean I use Frost Nova and low rank, speed cast Frostbolts only. Really, I wanna know, what do you all think about it?

Anyway, to conclude: Don't Tri-spec, as you are cheating yourself out of a lot of higher level talents.
