Combat mace-spec and LW. Is it worth dropping for BS?Follow

#1 Aug 08 2007 at 11:17 PM Rating: Decent
I am currently lvl 65 and specced 19/37/0, LW up to 331 and skinning coupled to that ofc!

http://armory.wow-europe.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Nagrand&n=Bladedthesis

Now, reading in on one-handed maces in wowhead.com, I don't see as many maces as swords, but I love the stun + weaponskill in macespec (and it looks freaking awesome wielding them too)! Most of the good maces are either grinding in Arenas or BS-crafting though so that puts me in dilemma.

I am planning on being part raiding part arena 2v2 and 3v3 when I hit lvl 70 and was wondering if it is worth it to change professions to Mining/BS. Really, those maces look teh bombzorx, but:
- is it too daunting/timeconsuming to lvl BS?
- will I regret dropping Skinning/LW-Elemental or is there (easily obtainably and substantially) better gear from rewards/drops/scryer/etc.

Grateful for answers as I have family w 3 kids and not so much time. Don't wanna switch if I cant make it to the good stuff if you know what I mean.

Any other craft that could prove to be more useful than LW? Alchemy or Engineering?
Or is it same w them, too much work for nuttin'

If you want to go maces, BS is easily worth it.

Drakefist/Dragonmaw/Dragonstrike is easily worth the time and gold.

Easily.

Thx Theo, (will be picky in choosing my wording as teh hammer will come down from you otherwise) roughly how much of my "wow-life would be dedicated to getting there?
I mean Goldwise,
timewise,
XP-wise,
guildgrouping/social-wise?

Will it be all-consuming for 2 weeks (remember, family man) or will it be 2 months w no flying mount in sight?

I just did exactly what you are thinking about not very long ago. Luckily, I had a nice boe epic axe drop and used that money to lvl my blacksmithing. I did it over a weekend. I didn't farm a single thing until I got up to the mats for drakefist. All in all, it took about 1.5k-1.7kg to lvl up to 360. Of course this will vary from server to server. Prices tend to be more competitive on the weekend. When it came time to make the drakefist, I already had ~42 primal earth, but only 5 primal fire. I went to elemental plateau and bladefist mts both, but there were so many ppl there, I spent more time pvping than farming. So, I had to pauperize myself completely to get the last 15 primal fire.

Also, take a look at the blacksmithing guides here (follow all the links to find the one that seems best). There are some recipes you will most likely have to buy like mithril spurs and mithril shield spike that will help lvling bs a lot. There's also some nice recipes from faction rewards that make it easy as well. The one I most remember is the rep reward recipe from, I think, cenarion expedition, some adamantite weightstone that gives +12dmg and +14 crit rating for 1/2 hr for blunt weapons. I'm pretty sure this lvled me from 350-360. Not a bad item to use when elemental farming btw.

If I made a mistake with names or what lvl these apply, what can I say, oops. The exact info is in the guides.

As long as you level Mining at the same time as BS, and you do it at 65+, you should be able to do 0-300 in about 2-3 days.

Thorium is one hanging point, where I suggest having about 200-300g for buying Thorium, or you can mine more (Un'goro is rediculous for farming Thorium). 300-350 is a bit rougher, but if you mine as you level in outland, you're basically just going to be buying the mats for Drakefist, since Fel Iron and Admantite is so plentiful.

Basically I devoted about a week to Mining/BS and I had my Drakefist.

Nother 2 days to get Dragonmaw for me. Total time 5 days 1-375+2 days getting mats for Dragonmaw.

Being a rogue, i suggest going to Silithus. TONS of thorium in the Hives. Took about a day getting the like, 400 or so I needed.

I still need one more Mech run for rep, then I need my heroic runs.

Other than that, I'm pretty much done. I'll be powerleveling from 360-375 in the next week or so while I get my rep and Nethers.

Fortunately I had the Nethers already from rolling on them since they are always nice to bank and I was sure I would use them eventually.

You think it's worth if you already have a S2 MH mace?

Is the Haste proc really that good?

Trust me, I know your pain. I'm a diehard macer as well, but haven't taken the plunge into Mining and BS for the drake hammer. Maybe one day. For now I'm wielding a Runic Hammer (MH) and Blackout Truncheon (OH). Since my rogue is an alt, I'm having trouble convincing myself to go through with the investment.

If you can get Dragonstrike, yeah.

If you can only get to T2, don't bother.

I'll probably be upgrading to a S2 MH mace eventually, but I need more PvP gear before I go there.

Thanks for all answers. I feel drawn to grind it out and craft those sukkah's, will decide this weekend.

One final question, would shooting for S2 maces be more hassle than getting good maces thru BS?
(I suppose the drakexxxxx are good moves because they are invested and upgraded if I understand correctly, while arena-weapons must be earned and bought. Thus I have to get maces anyway for obtaining them... kinda answers my own question there lol)

Enh, it's kinda tough to answer that.

You could join a ~1500 5v5 team and have the MH in 4 weeks.

Dragonstrike (T3 mace) is better than the S2 mace.

But Dragonstrike requires your guild to be in SSC/TK, preferably multiple bosses down to get the Nether Vortexes.

On the other hand, it's only a 6 DPS upgrade from Dragonmaw (T2), which is easy as hell to get, and you could use those points on a piece of arena gear or an OH.

It's really whichever you feel like spending the time doing.

I personally like mining, so gathering mats to level is fun. I'll probably be getting my Dragonmaw in the next two weeks.

Ok, u have convinced me! I will keep LW and get BS instead of Skinning!
Have an alt that will pick up Mining/skinning, thats gonna be good I think!

Awesome, I look forward to this now!
