Need advice on 60 PvP weapon choiceFollow

#1 Aug 07 2007 at 9:47 PM Rating: Decent
I'm currently level 59 and have 17k honor. I am looking to get a sword, then move on to levelling again. My problem is choosing between the 2 swords available as honor rewards (listed below).

Here's my dilemna. I'm a Holy spec'd Paladin with a few points in Protection. I see the higher damage/slower speed weapon to be better for big hits along with JotC+SoR (as SoR does damage according to weapon damage). I see the lower damage/quicker speed blade to have more utilization with SoW and SoL for extended grinding without needing to rest. I question however, which blade is actually better. You may get better damage out of the SoR with the slower weapon but the quicker weapon hits more often. I would assume the quicker blade would win out in damage over an extended period of time, but how long exactly ?

I've also heard two stories on holding agro. One is of course, big hits = big agro. The second is quicker hits with holy damage = more agro. Which is the truth ? I do tank a lot in instances, this is why I ask.

To be helpful with information, I solo alot. I solo constantly, and would prefer the blade most useful in solo'ing. Thanks in advance for any advice in helping me decide.

(I believe these are the honor rewards, I am at work so I may have the incorrect names, but Im pretty sure these are my choices)

High Warlord Blade
speed 2.90
138-207 (59.5)
+7 Stamina
Crit strike +14
AP +28

High Warlords Quickblade
speed 1.80
85-129 (59.4)
+7 Stamina
Crit strike +14
AP +28

For a holy/prot paladin, I'd say that neither of those are all that great, tbh. I'd personally say to save the honor/marks to get a nice upgrade right when you hit 70.

Maybe pick up a Flanged Battle Mace of the Sorcerer or of the Invoker and use that til you find something better from quests or do Blood Furnace for the mace from there.

Alternatively, if you're set on a sword, Skettis Curved Blade of the Sorcerer is pretty spiffy. Or if you want a sword with better DPS/Stats(though trust me, holy damage is the way you wanna go for faster killing as holy)

Shadowrend Longblade
96 - 179 Damage Speed 2.60
(52.9 damage per second)
+12 Stamina
Durability 90 / 90
Requires Level 60
Equip: Improves critical strike rating by 12.
Equip: Increases attack power by 22.

or

Footman's Longsword
77 - 145 Damage Speed 2.10
(52.9 damage per second)
+16 Stamina
Durability 90 / 90
Requires Level 60
Requires Honor Hold - Honored
Equip: Improves hit rating by 11.
Equip: Increases attack power by 22.

Holy damage = big aggro

It doesn't really matter how hard you hit. Holy damage is the basis of Pally tanking.

As for the weps, I don't really care for them either. I'd find something with spell damage if i were you.

Fallen Vindicator's Blade
Binds when picked up
UniqueMain Hand Sword
68 - 127 Damage Speed 2.00
(48.8 damage per second)
+13 Stamina
+10 Intellect
Durability 75 / 75
Equip: Increases damage and healing done by magical spells and effects by up to 11.

Easy quest reward...for starters

I second that.

a general tip for pvp:

ppl of a melee class DO jump around like chickens in pvp; back and forth, up and down, turning, doing all kinds of crazy stuff to AVOID GETTING HIT WHILE HITTING THE OPPONENT

therefore, since there's no way to hit every time your weapon's CD is over, getting the slowest weapon possible will be a good choice, because u want the most dmg

so think about what i said and u will know which one to get
