Just changed form Enhancement to Elemental last nightFollow

#1 Aug 07 2007 at 7:54 AM Rating: Decent
Hello everyone, first time post. I've enjoyed reading these forums for a while now and have received alot of good information. I've leveled my toon to 49 using enhanc but last night I decided to change it all and go Ele/Resto. Can someone take a look at what I did and see if my talents make sense. I tried to find some good gear but I'm wearing what I could find last night in the AH. Thanks for the help.

Sorry about that trying to do this at work.

The funny thing is, I'm considering the same move...however, I'd like to see everyone's comments first before I make my decision! =P

Well I've being called to be the healer more and more lately. Also I'm the highest guy in my guild that can heal they are all between 55 and 66. And I would like to play a bigger role in my guild as I level up. So I though Ele/Resto would be better than Enhanc/Resto.

True, while in the moment Ele/Resto can fill the "backup" healer role better than Enh/(anything even resto), since gear stats are closer related to healing than Enh.

Enh "can" fill the healer role good, IF they are in the gear that supports it. But in the middle of a battle, since you can't swap gear out, the elem is already dress for it.

That being said, even a Elem needs a seperate of devoted healing gear in order to possibily fill the role of "main healer", since elem gear stat's isn't enough for heavy duty main healing.

But, since elem and enh are both dps spec's, it really comes down to what type of dps you'd prefer doing? Melee? or Caster?

Ele is fun.

I was Enh to level, and after being disappointed with the spec in the Outlands, I switched over. While my gear is not great (good, but not great) the average crit is anywhere from 2000 - 2400 for lightning bolts. I've hit over 2500, but I simply need better gear for bigger and better pew pew. I've backup healed for Prince in Kara, so you're not completed gimped in that tree.

It's a spec that is really nice from a distance, but sucks up close - so be careful with 1v1s. Honestly, your melee SUCKS as ele. :)

I would say nix reverb and fill out lightning mastery and unrelenting storm. Also if you solo much eye of the storm is nice it will make heals uninterpretable too.

Elemental is a good build for gathering INT gear for later but your not going to main heal much as far as instances go unless you go resto, sad fact of life.

I main healed SteamVaults (lvl70 instance) last night as Enhancement spec. Grouped with blue guildys too. I have a pretty good heal set (5 epics) that I use so I had that going for me though. I'm not about to recommend doing this a lot but it can be done if the situation calls for it. You don't have to dump tons of points into resto in order to heal decent. A set alone will allow you to heal decent with whatever spec your currently have.

I've been playing enhancement for ages and from what I've seen and heard good 'mail' elemental gear is hard to come by. What I mean by that is that there aren't many options. My guild is running Kara at the moment and I've seen loads of enhance and resto gear drop, but very very few elemental pieces.

Not that this should make or break anyone's decision, but it is something worth looking in to.

I've played this spec for a couple of days now. I'm still not sure if it is for me yet. I miss banging it out with a something. For gear I still haven't found much to help my spell crit but I'll keep working with it a bit longer before I decide if I going to keep the spec.

Once you start packing on the crit gear with your crit talents you'll see a huge jump (mediocre gear compared to mediocre gear for both specs) from enhance dps.

With only 654 spell dmg I was pumping out 2800-3000 crit lightning bolts and 3200+ chain lightnings. Raid buffed, easily lasted 6-7 minutes without potting up and maintained 600+ dps just from LB spam.

Plus it's fun when LO procs in PvP and owns someone with double CL crits.

Elemental is certainly viable and a lot of fun, I will say though that you will find it much easier to gear yourself once you get to outland, there just isn't enough caster mail at your level... having said that since you won't be in melee it is probably alright to have a little leather in the mix.

Your build looks strong to me, finish maxing out LO in elemental then start down the resto tree, i would recommend Totemic Focus, Natures Guidance, Totemic Mastery, drop a point in Imp Reincarnation then Tidal Mastery and Natures Swiftness, the final build looking like this.

Good build

I did use the same at this lvl and still using the same.
Only thnig u have to worry about is if your Lightning overlad procs in some instance so watch your aggro baby.

This build is really good for questing with option to take down some elites* if well played.

Last night I switched from Elemental to Resto and tried to do some daily quests. After about an hour of that I was thoroughly dissatisfied and decided to log off. I felt I couldn't do well in PVP as an enhancement and PVP is definitely necessary on my PVP server but yet enhance is fun to solo with. Resto is great for instancing because you can still pop off lightning spams when on easy fights, but it totally sucks for doing quests... horribly sucks. Last is Elemental Spec which I hadn't done since level 30 or so when I switched to Enhancement.

I didn't run instances, but I jumped into a few battlegrounds and was very happy with the results. Even with 1/2 my gear still being enhancement and the other 1/2 lower level 70 crap I have been saving just in case I needed to respec, I completely modified any situation I encountered.

Come up against a large group fight and I would just pop off some heals to the team mates to get us even and then LB and Earth/Frost Shock to cancel out the enemies life. I loved to death doing the 2 sec lightning bolt critting, getting a 60% less mana shock spell and using the 3 min cool down for a guaranteed crit. Plate drop to 1/2 life and clothies drop to the ground.

I have always done a ton of damage in Enhancement, easily able to pull aggro from prot warriors, but that isn't necessarily a good thing. I wanted a spec that would allow me to help out the group for instancing, wouldn't take forver to solo with, and allow me to back-up heal and occasionally main heal for the easier 70 instances. Elemental/Resto seems to fill that roll very well.

As a quick side note, once we finished the Battleground (AV) I checked the Damage meters and I noticed at the top it wasn't a mage, lock, hunter, rogue, or DPS warrior, it was a Shaman. I checked him out in the Armory and he was elemental. Now not only was he/she the highest, but he/she was at 215k damage while the next person (mage) was at 160k. Something to grind your gears on... :)
