well, you can always look at the stickys or tons of other topics people put up. I can tell someone's going to get all mad at you already....anyway, Assassination, imo, is good for rounding out other specs. Assassination is also good burst damage (as is daggers.) Combat is something that doesn't really do burst damage, but there's no need to get behind your target and it does good damage throughout the whole fight. Combat Swords is (in my, and most peoples' opinions) the best lvling build. Subtlety is..well, it's fun and all, but it's really only good for lvling if you combine it with other specs. Flat out Sub sucks for lvling.

To make a successful build, you have to try them out yourself, and mix things here and there to your liking. Anyway, like I said, there's been plenty of topics stating what is used for what, and what builds are good for raiding, instances, pvp, etc. Get ready to be bombed

lol, thak you soo very much for that.

jokes aside, the main page for the rogue class say exactly this:
Combat (straight fighting), Subtlety (stealth skills and avoiding combat), Assassination (ruthless offense)

Well I can tell you this, I have re-spec'd to each of the 3 trees at some point. My leveling build was a "Combat Dagger" spec with Backstab being the brunt of my offense. I kept telling people that Combat was the way to go but the rogues I knew either went Sub for pvp or Assassination for raids.

After everything, I'm level 70 and Assassination spec'd. Mainly because of Mutilate(Backstab on crack). I've been playing this spec for bout 3-4 months now. And I have to say that it is the best I've come across. Basically, stealth in-cheap shot(2 ticks 25% and 3 ticks 75% of the time thanks to Sub tree talent "Initiative")-get behind 'em and Mutilate(4 or 5 ticks now)-wait for energy to get back to bout 50%ish-kidney shot-Mutilate-Mutilate(yes you can get 2 in before kidney is up)-then whatever I feel I need to do at that point I go for.

I say all that to say this: I've tried 'em all and in my opinion Assassination is where to go. My spec and build is available on The Armory. My toon's name is Culexus on the Icecrown server.

I would much rather have 2/2 Dirty Deeds over 2/2 Sinster Strike.

How often do you use SS when you have Mut?

40 energy versus 1 tick later....60 energy = mut = smarter.

My 2 cents on that.

Try that one.

I read around here that a lot of people think Shadowstep is retarded, so unless you want to be shunned by your own community, don't go for it.

I mean, it gives you more power to the fact that you can 2 hit KO people, but it seems nowadays people are finding stunlocking more effective.

But that's just me. I don't have a high level rogue, so don't bother flaming me/taking my word.

The reason you can't '2 hit KO' people, is that look at peoples' armor and health nowadays. You can't exactly shadowstep behind a warrior and expect to take it out in two shots :P Shadowstep is fun, and it may be good for one or two hitting lowbies, but in most cases, you won't be seeing many 70s with Shadowstep. Stunlocking is a favorite; I've always wanted to do it, and enjoyed doing it while in a group, however I'm combat swords so I'm not exactly doing that too often. Stunlocking is so effective..Sap, CS, KS, Blind, there's so many things out there that keep your opponent from doing what they want to do, but allow the rogue to do as they wish ;)

Yeah, the problem is that DoT kiting is the only realistic way to kill a Warrior, but then you lose the ability to have the precious few seconds with either a Gouge, or more-so, a Blind.

In an Arena setting, where there's always a healer, Crip/Wound would be the preferred combination, so you can at least CC the War for as long as possible.

You don't DoT kite Warriors in open spaces.

The only time you can do it effectively is when you LoS on a pillar.

Your Mut spec earlier in the thread is awful, btw.

How so? I got the idea from one of the top rogues on my server, Haunted. I have modified it but it works better than Combat spec's I was using.

This build (http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=iue0oxgsizVohZEMc) is effing terrible.

For Mut, you're either going 41/20/0 or 41/0/20. Imp Gouge is not worth it at all, and in fact with the way arenas are, it's a fairly useless talent.

Mut specs should not have Remorseless Attacks. Mut specs should not have Imp KS while leaving out Vile Poisons. Mut specs should not leave out Murder. Mut specs should have Serrated Blades if going 20 points in Sub, or have DW Spec if going 20 points in Combat.

Yoshiii is a (very) casual player who has some concept of the game, but doesn't have a firm gasp on most of the technical aspects, such as specs, damage, etc.
