As i haven't played wow before, im having a bit of trouble finding some good gear, especially staff/chest/shoulder/boots/pants, in the 50-56 range. Anybody have any suggestions which instances might drop some good stuff, or what zones have quests that give worthwhile rewards?

level to 58 and get to the outlands is the best advice for gear. I really wouldn't worry about better gear as it will all be blown away with the first few quests in the outlands.

You can say that again. The first quest I did in Outlands (other than the "go talk to some dude" quests that start once you go through the portal) gave me the Staff of Twin Worlds, which I think is significantly better than the blue-quality staff awarded from the Troll Feathers quest, and the quest to get it was pretty easy, too.

Unfortunately with the release of BC all but the highest epic gear from pre-BC is of any use in OL. I'm sure there are people who will argue with me, but for the most part everything pre BC is just not as good as what you get once you pass through the dark portal.
