how do maximize grinding dps as a holy specFollow

#1 Aug 03 2007 at 9:08 PM Rating: Decent
and don't tell me to respec. I like healing. But I also have to do solo grinding as well. I'm in my 30's now, and killing is starting to get slow. Although I do need a new weapon, I've had it for like 7 levels :). but it is a blue. That weapon is the be pally quest polearm.

which judgements and seals do I use is what I'm mainly asking. I'm terrible with names, and please don't use acronyms, I don't know them. That's why I had to make this thread, as I can't keep up with other threads, because of things like acronyms I can't understand. I don't have my char loaded right now, and can't even remember the judgements I'm using right now. But it's the first 2 you get in the game. I cast the one to increase attack speed/ seal it to increase holy damage, and then cast the judgement that deals holy damage (rightiousness iirc). Is this a good rotation, or should I do something else? My fights are lasting so long, my cooldown on my seal comes up and I can seal rightiousness and recast it again. I'm wondering if there's any better ways of dealing damage as holy spec.

I've leveled to 64 holy spec thus far.

JotC and SoR, which is what it sounds like you're doing, is what I did as well. And the fights tend to take a while, and still take quite a while.

Things did pick up a bit when I got Holy Shock. And when I got that one talent that gives spell damage from intellect, but it's still pretty slow. My recommendation is that right now, Essences of Fire, Air and Water(those are the three you need, iirc) and golden pearls are pretty cheap, so consider putting a pre-TBC enchant of spell damage on your leveling weapons if you know an enchanter that can do it.

I concur.

SotC = Seal of the Crusader. That's the one that gives attack speed and attack power bonus, and increases Holy damage when Judged.

SoR = Seal of Righteousness. That's the one that deals holy damage on all hits and deals even more damage when Judged.

That is also what I use at 70 when soloing, and there is hardly any way to increase your damage.

Holy Shock will offer good burst damage, but will require you to drink more often.
Hammer of Wrath will end fights quickly, but will cause more downtime as well.
Try using Consecration rank 1 once your target is Judged by SotC. The increase in damage may make it worth casting, or it may just cause more downtime too.

Holy is definitely not the best leveling spec so I'm afraid there isn't much more you can do. You could try to get a separate set of gear with stats like Str, Agi and Stam and act as if you were Retro. Dunno, just a thought.

The BE pally polearm, imo, is only good for a few levels until you start getting some better ones. I recommend shield/sword combo. Esp look for the Sword of Omen. Forgot who gives you the quest in UC to get it, but look it up.

I do very little grinding. Dailies and that is it and most of those I don't even need to kill.

I do have a +spell damage set (very modest though, only +300 something) along with Legacy (2 hand epic axe) that I picked up one night when no one needed in Kara. Helps some, lots of room for improvement. JotC + SoR. Swing away, Holy shock and perhaps a well placed consecrate.

Add some MP5 gear as you can. There's some oil that's made via enchanting that will add some to your weapon, there's also a crafted cloth headpiece with some int & mp5, lacks a lot of defense, but I think it counters with some help in alleviating downtime. Seal of Wisdom will help a little when you need to refill your mana pool.

But the BEST thing I've found to help level while Holy spec, is to party up with some friends for questing/grinding. ^^

My advice is to grind a quest your level. People in my guild comment on how fast I level (Yes, I am Holy with 10 points in Protect). Grinding sucks, but if you grind out 30 quest pieces and turn it in for a 6k xp boost, it makes it all worth it and it also feels like the grinding accomplished something. Do all the quests, even the ones you think suck. When I'm around 75% into my current leve, I run around and turn in all my quests and usually level.

oh I always do quests. I'm levelling my pally all with rest bonus too. So it hasn't been too bad. I'm trying to do more instance runs that I may have missed with my main (a non party friendly hunter). Healers are always in demand. Course I've noticed some instances are more popular than others... BFD is hard to get going. My rogue is trying to do gnomeragon for the dungarees. Hard for horde. With my hunter I didn't really do any instances after SM except ST when I was 5 levels higher than the instance. I have yet to do ZF or Uld, or scholo.

I leveled 1-70 as holy also. No, its not the fastest. I also enjoyed healing and being holy spec so I ignored the jeers and played the way I wanted to.

Like you, the acronyms used and all that confused the hell out of me. Props to Selverein for laying it down for you. I also used a judged crusader and seal of riteousness all the way.

IMO using a two hander is the way to go. Big damage, slow weapon for better seal of riteous damage.

Do Razorfen Kraul and there's a nice two hander corpsemaker that could drop there. http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=6687&locale=enUS;source=live

Start getting Scarlet Monestary groups around 34. The cathedral is where you get the next nice upgrades.

Mograine's Might http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=7723
Triune Amulet http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=7722
Hand of Righteousness http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=7721
Aegis of the Scarlet Commander http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=7726

I ran SM Cathedral untill I got all those. The shield and one hander lasted as my instance healing set for quite a while and Mograine's Might is good.

What really seemed to help me alot is when I hit 47 and got Truesilver Champion. http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=7960&locale=enUS;source=live

No stats on it but by then you're picking up other items to help on INT etc. You wouldn't think the holy shield is that big of a deal but it really, really was. The mana saved was bigtime for me. I slapped a +7 damage chant on it and kept it for 10 levels...pretty much b/c of the shield proc which happens often.

At 57 you'll be alot happier b/c of all the cheap lvl 57 greens from outlands you can get that are such a big improvement.

Good luck and have fun with your holy pally.

thanks

and bought a new sword, the polearm was horribly out of date after I saw greens with a lot higher dps. I keep the polearm for the int bonus for when I'm a healer until I find a better sword or other item with int on it.
