okay..i just got a bird from winterspring..
and i've never used 1 before..its always been a cat for me
but now im giving it a shot cos of their "screech"
i read the beastmaster guide that sayis wrote and it said this:

Screech rank 5 - Bat, Owl, Carrion Bird

-Blasts single enemy for x to y damage and lowers the attack power of enemies in range by z. Effect lasts 4 seconds.
-Acts something like an area-Growl.

so if it works like a growl..is it still necessary to get growl?
or not..cos my bird cant hold aggro as much as my cat before
well that is if dont have growl on..
so was wondering if i should still get growl or not..

Always get growl, it's free (no training points).
Screech does no where near as much aggro as growl, it's normally enough to not pull adds if you throw on a mend pet though.
It normally takes 3 or 4 screech's before you can multishot safely.

You are misunderstanding his words. It is more like the Warrior and Druid Demoralizing Shout. It will glue the Mobs to your pet until you heal over that aggro, or do enough AoE damage to them.

As has already been mentioned, definitely also get growl for your bird. Growl holds aggro on a single mob better than screech. Screech will hold multiple mobs, though is not too strong an aggro generator and can be overpowered if you use multi-shot or heal your pet too soon.

Screech's best advantage is not breaking traps. This beats a gorilla's thunderstomp or dragonhawk's fire breath.

I'll typically use screech if I'm running an instance with a real warrior. The debuff on the mobs he's fighting helps keep his health up and thereby conserves the healer's mana. I'll leave growl off so as not to pull aggro off the warrior. However if one mob heads over to our mage, I'll send my bird in pursuit, switch to growl and use intimidation to fasten aggro back on my pet. I can trap a second mob if it comes after the mage. If he pulls any more than that its his problem.

Get growl, use it pve.

W/ screech you can sic the bird on, say, three targets (lets say they are close to each other).

The bird will sometimes hold agro on the two extra ones, even if you heal pet - even if you multishoot.

It doesn't always work. Usually two or more screeches have to have landed for you to be able to mend pet or multi.

Experiment w/ it. If it doesn't work, sometimes it is because a target resisted the screech.

The safest use of screech is to hold better agro. The prime danger is that a non-agro critter wanders by, and you get an add you don't want (learn when to shut it off).

Screech is
1: a great debuff on all targets in melee range.
2: a little bit of AoE aggro
3: annoying as hell for tanks if you are BM with BD and GftT (and it screeches every 1.5 seconds >:D)
