Hey guys, I was browsing through the wowhead archives and noticed that lots of the epic plate from heroics is a mix of def/off. gear like the shoulders from heroic sethekk. Would it be pretty viable for a warrior to have all of those pieces equipped (would lose some DPS obviously) and be able to just throw on a sword and board and be nearly crit proof?

Would this be viable or would it be too far of a stretch to try and obtain? Along with the few epics in heroics mixed in with some gladiator armor, it would give pretty good HP/dps capabilities especially with a sun eater/epic tank shield combo. Feedback anyone?

When you are tanking you want the best gear available to you for staying alive the longest. When you are dpsing you want the best gear available to you for you to deal as much damage possible. It's that simple. If you are dpsing you should not really have to worry about being hit a lot if you got a good tank and group. If you are an offtank in a raid you should have the correct gear to either offtank or help dps down a boss. If you have better tanking pieces that the mixed def/offense as you described this is what you do.

1. Use those pieces for soloing.
You'll have a way easier time with strength/defense gear because you will be avoiding more mob attacks from misses, dodges, and parrys.

2. Use those pieces for a cc set.
If you are a dps warrior you can have a hard time getting into groups because of your lack of cc but some of us warriors know better. This strategy works the best if you have a raid offtank build with 15 points in defense for improved shield block. If my group needs another cc what I do is use all of my strength defense gear combined with my dps gear (where im about 460 defense) and offtank a mob. After the mob is dead ill switch back to my dps weapons and not lose dps capability to where I'm totally useless. This form of cc is great for groups because it does not break and your able to damage the mob while offtanking.

Both methods have worked great for me hopefully they will for you as well.

If you're offtanking you should be wearing MT gear. If you're not OT:ing you should be wearing DPS gear. You're not going to have to do both in one pull without knowing about it, unless someone has done something wrong. Basicly: Get as good tanking gear as you can and as good DPS gear as you can. Mixing will always leave you gimped in both directions.
