Should they spec all frost? I have been, and I am still low level, but it seems to be working out for me at least until now.

However, I still have a helluva time killing anyone on the opposing faction. Even in duels, I find that frostbolt rank 3 takes simply too long to cast when the target is not under FN.

Any suggestions? When in PvP i usually cast frostbolts, FN's, fireblast, CoC, and very few other spells. Should I be using other spells like scorch, or is this one of those times where mage doesn't really shine, until more spells are learned.

Thanks

what I recommend doing:

sheep -> frostbolt -> frost nova (if they are melee) -> frost bolt -> instance cast until dead (fireblast/cone of cold/arcane explosion)

I'm still a newbie mage (I am 22 and 3/4 levels old), anyway thus far I love the frost spells. When I was level 21, and 29 rogue tried to gank me. It was a quick frost noza, blink, turn and sheep, then turn and RUN!!!! Well he caught me with his sprint and sap'd me. As soon as I could move it was another frost nova, blink, sheep and run. This had to get him so mad, he simply couldn't kill me....he'd get close but just couldn't finish the deal.

Well, when I started this story, I was writing it to show off how good the survivability is with frost, but it just dawned on me that everyone has frost nova, blink and sheep. So I am going to crawl back into my hole and watch from the shadows.

Do you have Imp Frost Bolt?

If not, I would suggest you try it out. I forget what rank my fast-bolt is but it has a 1sec cast timer. Between that & CoC kitings are a matter of skill (ie; is the other player better than me) and luck.

Like the above poster mentioned, Sheep, Frost Bolt, Frost Nova, Frost Bolt (use Fire Ball here if Rogue), then kite with CoC & Fireblast until your Nova is ready again & repeat. I like to use my 1sec Frost Bolt right after Nova Breaks just to reset the chill timer. If you start casting it right after your big-hit spell while there Frost Nova'd you'll have it in the air about the time you hit with the first spell (unless its a hunter... then you better be closer than that).

With melee I like to play the game; "can you catch me and kill me before my nova's cooldown is up?".

Good Luck

why would you use a fireball because it is a rogue?

The fire dot will prevent them from restealthing.

Yes, i have a link to my armory page in my sig. Rank 5 frostbolt takes 2.5 secs to cast, while rank 1 costs 1 sec.

Should i just use that? How am I going to do any damage?

Yes.

When I lose it's because they either restealthed or I screwed up and burned all my cooldowns too soon.

CoC and Frost Bolt usualy keeps them chilled long enough.

I blink when crippled & close, or they sprint.

Just use it as a snare. If you're caught in a kite with Nova & CoC on cooldown that's your next best thing. Keep in mind you will still lose ground while casting, so I'm not saying use it every fight... I don't. Just the close ones where you need to buy some more time & run space is limited. Run ahead.. FastBolt, run ahead FastBolt, until cooldowns reset.

Also helps if you want to keep them in range of your spells.

For damage wait until you have them Nova'd for longer casts and use (as mentioned above by Anobix) instant cast spells while running; CoC, Fireblast, Arcane Explosion, ect...

Toy with it, a 1sec Frost Bolt comes in handy for me. But I always keep my highest rank for dealing any damage.

Good luck,
Kz
