Black Morass - Challenge for a mageFollow

#1 Jul 28 2007 at 2:40 AM Rating: Decent
just a simple question - Is +452 spell dmg and 32%crit chance is not enough to run Black Morass on normal mode?
I have not yet been there and today was refused to join a group because of these low states...May be group leader is right, but its just hard to believe that a mage with almost full Incanter set can't do BM?!

That spell damage does seem pretty low.

Now, I'm not saying you couldn't handle it, per se, but that instance is a bit of a DPS test, so I'd personally want to have someone with about 600 or so +dmg.

No, really, i'm glad you told me. Cos i was a bit mad on this person, now i know that i should change several crappy parts of my gear before going there.
Thanks, Poldaran, for being always on line when mages need your advice :)

I would say it is less of a dps test and more of a mana pool test. If you have hte mana to burn down the adds before the others spawn and knowing how to time your kills you will be fine. I do agree with Poldaran though that your spelldmg looks a bit low.

The adds have low hp and you should be on the adds, if you stay back far enough you'll be able to stay out of combat in between the adds, sit whenever you're out of combat. If you have over 7k mana you should be able to make it, just don't attack the big ones. I ran BM with about as much spelldamage as you have once, isn't really a problem if the rest of your group knows what they're doing.

Just burst them down fast using fireball a scorch and then instants. Then drink till the next add - that's what I do, and I tested it out in my 60 raiding gear once for a laugh (simmilar stats to you, only much less crit and a bit more spell damage). You should get plenty of Crits and therefore a lot of MoE mana - I can't really see it being a problem.

Just ran BM yesterday for the first time. Now i have 6600hp and about 9600mp, had less before the run. And had about +480 splell dmg. Was so scared at the beginning, but all worked out well, i was able to kill adds just fine, and had time to drink in intervals. So, really, that's not that +dmg matters that much in this fight.
Mages, dont be afraid to run BM!!!
=)

The major problem people seem to have in BM (based on my experiences) is killing the second boss (90% reduced healing debuff fully stacked thing). That's where a mage comes in handy : STEAL HIS 250% ATTACK + MOVEMENT SPEED!!! its funny to see some guy run around faster than you would normally do on an epic mount... too bad the buff doesnt apply on casting speed (1.5 sec fireballs would be awesome), but the tank and healer'll thank you (if they ever notice that is, ingrate SObhey HEY!).

the stealing-the-boss-buff-idea is great, any1 to confirm that it works?

I confirm :)

The buff you steal lasts a couple of seconds, but definitely helps your tank/healer duo.

(I never used detect magic on this one, but he probably uses it 3-4 times in a fight or more if you're having problems finishing him).

edit: detect magic thing
