im a noob to wow and after reading the boards feel like im a little bit less of one but still had a question.

throwing weapon or bow? no one talks about that. is it worth giving up a bag slot for the bow? are there any good throwing weps?

From levels 1-64 you will want the ranged weapon with the best stats on them. It just so happens, that there aren't any good throwing weapons availible before you hit Outlands (at lvl 58) so you will find yourself with a bow/gun in the ranged slot most of the time.

Get the one with the highest agility and/or stamina you can get your hands on, because you won't really use it much. It's just there for a stat boost.

Once you hit lvl 64 however, you will get an ability called Deadly Throw. It's a finisher like Eviscerate which slows the opponent and does more damage for each combopoint. This is a very good tool for PvP so later in the game (after 64) you will want a throwing weapon with the best stats over a bow/gun.

Hope my answer was any help :)

Well, I do agree with Flager that it would be wise to get something with stats. In the lower lvls there won't be things with stats tho, so I'd use a throwing wep. Then once the bows and guns start getting stats (in the later 30s I believe) you should start carrying those around. You won't be using them much at all. However, with the space I desperately need in my inventory all the time, even with 16 slot bags and such, I would rather prefer a throwing weapon. For those cases which I will need something ranged, I'd rather not waste space in my inventory for ammo that I would need for something else important. But that's just me. If you have plenty of space, then go ahead and carry that pretty gun! If not, you might want to give up a stat or two. Not many people would do that, but they'd be surprised what they'd have to do to make space for a quest item or something. Anywayz, nothing with stats until later 30s anyway, so go with throwing weps until then.

Most importantly, don't be as stupid as I was.

Around lvl 60 or so I got a really nice throwing weapon. And at lvl 63 an even nicer gun. So I vendored the throwing weapon. And I called myself a serious dumbass when I realized that Deadly Throw only works with throwing weapons, not all ranged weapons. Now I got one very nice Skill I cannot use untill I find a throwing weapon.

Thought I'd share to make sure this doesn't happen to anybody else.

Gun throwing for the win!

I wish we could throw junk though, that would be neat.

To answer the OP, have one of each, for me I have a bow for PvE (better stats = better DPS), and throwing knives for PvP.

???

Thick Bronze Dart - Crafted
huntsman's Crossbow - Alliance only quest
Hand of Argus Crossbow - Alliance only Quest
Throat Piercers - Ghostland Vendor
Quel'Thalas Recurve - Quest Horde Only

There you go, ranged items with stats pre-lvl 30. Throughout all the levels go for stats on ranged, even if you get a bow, you only need to carry around 1 stack of ammo so 1 bag slot out of 16 isn't even that bad(that's saying the only bag you have is the backpack).

Ok, let's make it simple: until you start to pvp, really, stick to throwing knives. If you play your rogue as you should, you'll attack from stealth 99% of the time and will very rarely have to pull from a distance. In those few cases, you just need 1 dam point to pull the mob, you don't care about the damage which will anyway never be fantastic. And you certainly don't want to waste inventory space for bullets/arrows, so stick with throwing knives.

Correct... quivers are for hunters... they passively increase haste. As a rogue all you need is a stack of arrows/bullets in any bag :)

yup one stack is plenty. 200 arrows will last me while questing until I get back to a base. Losing one slot isn't so bad. I only shoot it once, so the speed bonus of a quiver is useless (not sure it even works with rogues as they don't have auto-shoot like hunters do).

I just use it to pull. I know rogues should stealth, but I almost never do. Competition for mobs is very fierce. And I'm tired of losing mobs to alliance, or often even other horde. Still takes to long to shoot an arrow though. A shaman with a shock can instantly grab a mob (I know, I've done it with my shaman :)). And I generally find it better just to kill everything instead of stealth in just for a couple kills. More xp, faster levelling etc. Though if you see others on the outskirts battling their way in, you can stealth and get to the boss before they do so you don't have to wait for respawn if they get there first otherwise.

But you do not want to lose an entire bag slot!! I have a hunter main, and it's just horrible never having enough inventory space. I even have to put bullets in my regular bags because I go through them so fast.

and my rogue is just about to give up on stranglethorn vale. the competition for mobs is too fierce there. I can't get any. :(.

I just used whatever was best and available to me, I used a random drop of the bandot bow I found almost exclusively from 63 to 70 or so, I never actually used deadly throw until after I hit 70 and started messing around with stuff i had saved from other characters over time. Now that not to say you shouldn't use it, but I guess I just never saw the need.
