okay..my question is: whats better for a BM spec hunter?
im plannin gettin 1 of em as soon as i get my hands on sonic spear..
im guessin savagery since it has more attack power..
and it helps my pet do more damage
but agi gives more crit chance, armor and dodge..
i heard +35 agi is much better for MM, is that correct?

For a Beastmaster, I'd say it depends on what you do: if you're raiding and thus getting raid buffs (like Blessing of Might and Blessing of Kings), the Agi might be better. It depends on how much DPS you put out personally, because the more you do, the more valuable the crit bonus is.

As far as I've heard 1 agi > 2 AP. So +35 agi would be the better choise. I think this is mainly because agi gives crit chance, and AP does not.

Actually Xord, that would depend on specc and Gear. With my current gear, I'd rather have the Agi if Surv, and Savagery if BM/MM. You just have to do the math and find out what you are lacking compared to your specc goals.

doesnt ap applies to pet's damage and crit doesnt ?
so for BM wouldnt be savagery be much better..
but if agi=2ap then yea +35 agi would be much better..
right now..i have over 19% crit chance..BM specc..level 70
is that good enough ?

Savagery if BM
35 Agi if SV
Whichever is cheaper if MM (although I'd reccomend savagery a little higher)

EDIT: 1 Agi = 1 AP, the 2 AP model is outdated severely

when 0.025% of your dps is more then 1 14th of a dps (1 AP) 1 Agility will always be better then 2 Ap.

I'm not really sure what he meant by this, but I'm gonna try to do the maths for it (might be ripped off from Utar though...)

[14 AP = 1 DPS, so 1 AP = ~0.07 DPS].

So, if 0.025% of your DPS > 0.07 1 agi is better than 2 AP.

We get the following equation for the minimum DPS required: [X * 0.025 = 0.07]. Now, reversing that to find out what X is: [0.07 / 0.025 = 2.8].

[X = 2.8]. Meaning that if your DPS is higher than 2.8 (and I believe that the lowest DPS I've had while playing as a level 1 char never came under 3) 1 agi > 2 AP.

What I gather from this is that 1 agi is always better than 2 AP. Although I could've missunderstood the whole thing, and this isn't the correct way of calculating it at all.

We could do a double check though.

Savagery: +70 AP. [70 / 14 = 5] Adds 5 DPS.

Major Agility: +35 agi. 35 agi = 35 AP + 0.875% crit chance. [35 / 14 = 2.5] Adds 2.5 DPS. Say your average DPS is 500 (quite low, but assume that). 0.875% chance to crit will higher your overall DPS with 0.875%. [500 * 0.00875 = 4.375] Meaning it highers your DPS with ~4.4. [2.5 + 4.4 = 6.9] Meaning +35 agi highers your DPS with ~7.

I get it to Major Agility > Savagery with 2 points of DPS as margin (in this case).

Edit: Highlights.

Edit: He could also have meant that it's 0.025 of the DPS your agi gives you. Still, if my calculations are right, you'd only need [2.8 * 14 = 39.2] +40 AP and after that 1 agi > 2 AP.

You're assuming a base crit rate of 0%, though. Since nobody would choose all AP or all Agi, you'll have both RAP and crit%. So, let's do the same test with a base RAP of 500 and base 10% crit (also low).

Major Agility: +35 Agi = 35 AP + 0.875% crit
500 + 35 = 535 AP
10 + .875 = 10.875 Crit
535 * 1.10875 = 593.18125
593.18125 / 14 = 42.37 DPS

Savagery: +70 AP
500 + 70 = 570 AP
570 * 1.1 = 627
627 / 14 = 44.79 DPS

Essentially, this means that there is no clear-cut answer that one is always better than the other. You need crit% and you need AP. Which one is absolutely the best will always depend on what your current RAP/crit% is.

What this little test doesn't take into account is the effect on the pet. The pet directly gains a portion of RAP, but not of crit% nor of Agi. So, when you stack all Agi, your pet gets half the benefit as it would if you stacked all AP.

As said before, you can't stack all of one or the other, but when you're a Beast Master, you'll usually want to prioritize AP over Agi or crit%. Fewer crits but harder hits -- from both you and the pet.

Well spotted :) I wasn't really sure of the answer, I was just trying to get one by doing the math. I do tend to forget certain factors though.

Rate up to you regardless, for shedding some light upon this whole thing.

I would. Choose all AP, that is. There are pieces of gear where it's not an option, the AGI comes with the AP. But any place I've had the option, such as with Gems and Enchants, I've gone for stacking AP.

It's just better. Read here for why this is so.

Savagery is a red glow with dripping blood and major agi is a bright green glow, this may or may not affect your choice.

as a raiding beastmaster with a scorpid i personally like to crit a whole lot, as i have GftT it helps my scorpid keep a continuous stream of scorpid stacks and claws on the target, and with the hourglass of the unraveller my 300 AP bonus comes up everytime the PPM cd goes off, but the choice is really up to you.
