1/3 FI "enough"?Follow

While levelling, I got to the 30-point tier of the BM tree, and picked up BW and 3/3 CR, and figured I might as well put my 5th point into FI. Now, since SS > FI, at level 45 I started putting points in there. But I noticed that the tooltip wouldn't change from 1/3 to 3/3 on FI, it just says "increased damage." So for grouping, people see that and think they're getting the full benefit, when I can get 2 extra talent points to use elsewhere...

Granted, it's not a great trick for end-game stuff, but for levelling+pugs my party will like me for it and I get 2 free talent points.

A straight +1% damage (after all other modifiers are applied) for 1 talent point is hard to match, though, even if it requires a pet crit to activate.

True, but I could use those points elswhere while levelling (i.e. animal handler), and every group I'm in will think I was nice enough to get the group talent. Sort of a cheap trick to make myself likeable for 2 talent points less.

Not everyone reacts to buffs, though. They *certainly* don't react to debuffs; nobody ever seems to appreciate Expose Weakness.

In any event, the question is who is the trick tricking? Is Catlike Reflexes more important to you? (Maybe while soloing.) But since you aren't going to be picking up Mortal Shots until a point where you'll be potentially respeccing for endgame anyway, I'd put points 42 and 43 (or 44 and 45 if you prefer AH) into filling out FI.

I would say you're only tricking yourself by not giving an extra 2% DPS to your teammates.

To your teammates? The leeches.. :P

FI buffs you 3% and your pet 3%... buffing the teammates is a fringe benefit.

Even if you want to be self-centered, the two points in Animal Handler have the effect of buffing your pet's damage by 4%, whereas you could buff yourself 2% and your pet 2% with the additional two points in FI.

So it's kind of down to whether 2% pet damage or 2% personal damage is worth more. I'd take all three points in FI, group or no.

Yeah, but I'd rather get the +8% mount speed along with it (the +4% pet DPS is a bonus). Also, assuming pets have a base miss rate of 5%, that would increase it's DPS by 4.2%. Okay, so if we assume my pet is 40% of my DPS, that's 1.68%, where for the 2% apiece would be a straight 2% DPS...but my point was it was slightly less of a gap than said!

Just wanted to point out that that's backwards. +8% mount speed that doesn't stack with any other mount speed boosts is the bonus in this case: the important part of the talent is the 4% hit.

Where'd the extra .2% come from, btw?

Base of 95% to-hit. It's probably more if you factor in parry, dodge, and block from what you push off the table by avoiding most of the misses, now that I think about it (probably goes from 80% to 84%, which would be a total of 5% increase in DPS...but that would even out the DPS to a 2% increase overall. So against mobs that can't block and/or parry, 2/2 FI would increase DPS by more in solo play). And since I dont have any other mount speed increase, the mount speed increase on the talent is good for me.
