Anyone been getting weird pet glitches lately? Here is what I have had happening. Let's see, ok so as a hunter I have had 3 pets, I started off with an owl, that I took to level 20, then dismissed to got a vulture, which I then dismissed for a green spider in Duskwoods, which I didn't like so I dissmissed it finally to get my current pet Petunia(A giant creeper spider, the big green ones off of South Shore). Anyway, I decide to learn some new abilities by taming other pets, so I put Petunia in the stables.

I go and tame a boar and keep it around, long enough to get gore from it. I then want to go play some BG so I go to the closest stable and get Petunia, and put the boar in the empty slot, but the weird thing is that the icon in the slot is showing my previous pet the vulture. So I select it, now the full image is showing the vulture, but the boar spawns. Now later in the evening, I am ready to log off(I had gone to the stables in different areas, and it is still showing the vulture, but my boar still spawns) I dissmiss my boar, and log off petless. So I log back on yesterday, and call pet, and which pet spawns you ask? Nope, not the boar, not even the vulture, but my very first pet the Owl.

Anyone else have these weird things happen to you? Or is it just me?

Question: Did you DISMISS the pets or ABANDON the pets. Sorry for the caps, but want to make sure you see the difference. If you just dismissed them, they weren't gone (ie the first owl was still your active pet). Then, you went and tried to tame a second pet (the vulture). Because the owl was still actually your pet, when you tamed the second one it sent your owl to the stable. The same thing happened when you went to get spider, it sent the vulture to the stable as well. Finally, when you tamed the 4th pet, it sent your third pet to the stable as well even though there aren't enough stable slots for that.

Sounds insane, I know. I saw someone post this in a thread months ago and thought they were crazy so I went and tested it out myself. I had 2 pets in the stable and one active. I dismissed my current pet (not abandon) and then went and tamed a 4th pet. I headed to the stables and sure enough I could cycle through four different pets.

I hope this clears things up. I have no idea if this is a bug Blizzard is not aware of, or if this was something intentional. In any case, if you no longer want a pet make sure you abandon it, not just dismiss it.

Yeah I dismissed all of my pets, the progression was like this(over the lifetime of my hunter, this isn't all in one day), Tamed owl, dismissed, tamed Vulture, dismissed, tamed green recluse spider, dismissed, tamed giant plains creeper, put in stables, tamed boar.

The thing I found was wierd, was that the Giant Plains Creeper(Petunia), was always in my stable, when I switched my boar for Petunia, It would show the spider, but the boar would not be visible, it would show the vulture. But if I selected the Vulture from the stables,(petunia would be the icon for the inactive pet slot in the stables), the boar would be what spawned, then I log off without a pet out, and when I Call Pet after logging back on, I get my old owl. I haven't seen hide nor hair of the green recluse in all this madness. Just seemed really weird and freaky to me. I guess I will go and abandon all those other pets.

As a side question on learning abilities from pets you tame, is there some pre-requisite you need to meet in order to earn them? Do you have to get your loyalty up to a certain level, or can you only get 1 ability from 1 tamed beast? Because I have the hunter helper add-on which shows what beasts teach what abilities, and the boar I tamed has both gore and dash(I believe is what it is), but the only ability I have gained from it is gore.

I think there is a chance every time a pet skill is used, that you'll learn it. Since Dash is on a long cooldown, unlike Gore, it'll take longer to learn it.

The whole pet-dismiss thing is buggy as hell. I wish you luck in abandoning those pets. I've heard of people needing to get GMs to fix their stables.

I think you did it wrong. I had this happen early in my Hunter career. There's a difference between using the ability "Dismiss" and selecting the option "Abandon." You must right click your pet's icon then select Abandon from the available list.

Dismiss, as a selectable ability movable on the ability bar, is a different story.

Its a glitch u must not overdo, its usually use to get an extra pet and keep ur old one. Its usefull but potentially dangerous. Just keep abandoning all the pets u dont need and u should get it back to normal.

Good Luck

Ok so here is the follow up to my little issue. I log on last night, with Petunia by my side. I go to check the stable master, and now I have 3 pets, the first being the one by my side, Petunia, in the current pet slot, then I have my old owl in the 1st inactive slot, and Petunia again in the 2nd inactive spot. Which is even more weird because as of now I have only baught 1 inactive spot in the stables, and it is showing I can still purchase the second spot for 5g, but there is already a pet in that spot.

Now I try to switch out Petunia for the Owl. I can't select Petunia(neither icon, not the active pet icon, or the 2nd slot inactive icon). So because I can't select her, I can't put her in the stables. The only icon I can select is the owl. I can't do anything with it though, I can't put it in the active slot, it won't switch out, I can just move it on my screen and put it back in the 1st inactive slot. So now my stable is useless.

I have to do a GM ticket, I abandon Petunia(my little flower will be missed, she was a BG beast dominating players left and right), then the GM comes deletes all my pets at my request, and gets my stable all worked out. They said the problem was that I had too many pets than I should have, so this definitely a bug in the system, to allow someone to dismiss their pets and tame another. So now I know to abandon all my pets, but shouldn't they do something about this to save them some trouble with other newbs like me who make this mistake.

It seems like a simple mistake that anyone can make rather easily, and doesn't seem to hard to fix, but I mean to save time for the GMs couldn't they do something to easily fix this. Like make tame pet ability only be active if they abandon a pet or place it in the stables, instead of being castable anytime as long as you don't already have a pet by your side. Or even easier make an ability(that you would get free from the quest that you get the tame pet ability) to abandon pet, that way new hunters will know and see the difference between dissmiss and abandon.

Here is my frame of thought on why it happened. I rarely ever right click icons, not even so inspect people(I use armoury for that), so I really had no idea Abandon was in there. The only reason I found how to change the name, was because I was looking for how to change the name, and since I saw no abilities on it, I right clicked and looked for it. Now the same thing happened when I wanted to get rid of a pet. I was looking for a way to get rid of it, and I saw Dissmiss in the abilities, and I thought Dissmissing your pet was the way to get rid of it. So I never thought to look any further once I saw that.

I'm not making excuses for my mistakes, I am simply pointing out how easy it is for someone to overlook right clicking their pet icon, when you have an ability that does a similar thing right in front of you, and just thinking of simple ways to keep others from making the same mistake.

But it's just ideas, and everything is working fine for me now and I am happy about that. Now I have to go get another pet and may name it Petunia II, if I can, and hope they can fill the shoes of her predecesor.

Here's an odd pet glitch, though it happened a few weeks ago, not related to the recent patch...

I was at the time a level 15 or so troll hunter, with an Owl pet and a scorpid pet. I fought all in Durotar mostly with my owl and a friend took me to Undercity. After getting off the zepplin, my pet owl was now a level 6 ! green spider!. It's title was the name of the spider not my owl's name. When I found a stable master, I switched it for my scorpid, but it was still the spider. I abandoned the pet and got my owl from the stable, and all was back to normal, owl in control, scorpid in stable. Strange huh?

The glitch is only usefull in one use, which means dont do this multiple times at once but i wouldnt recommend it

What has happened is you have filled your stables to the point where you cannot move anything. I did that by mistake.

I have discovered a "Cure" to prevent that dismiss/tame glitch from bothering you to much.

First you get the move you were trying to get off said pet. then abandon that one. You won't be able to call for your other pet because it is kind of in a void. simply take your gear off and die. (by a graveyard of course) That some how resets the primary pet in your stack.

I ran into this when I got killed after taming a new pet. I was going to keep that one but my main pet came back out and I was confused. Tamed the pet again. I didn't have space for it and so the stables locked up.

Be careful with this glitch. It is not a use all the time glitch.

*Edit*
Some times you have to work with a pet a little longer to learn a new move from it. Possibly you might have already learned it and just missed that message. Check your Pet training menu. I have done that before as well.
