As far as soloing goesFollow

#1 Jul 22 2007 at 3:21 PM Rating: Decent
I recently downloaded the trial version in hope of finding a new game to play after playing Everquest for a while, and while the game are similar in some case, i am finding myself a bit, lost, in the talent system. I did read the boards, and builds, but could not exactly find the answer to my question:

What is the "best" build in term of SOLOING, keep in mind i do not have twink gear or anything at that, so that should be a good consideration, i'm level 12 right now and i didn't even bother putting points in talents simply because i am scared of wasting money on rebuilding.

Also, some general paly tips of " what i shoulnt forget" would be appreciated...

As for professions, i chose Smithing and Mining... comments ?

Thanks.

Retribution is a good soloing tree, especially early in the game. At 35 or 40 you could respec to Protection with Reckoning for AOE grinding.
The slowest build is Holy, but it is well loved by parties.

I am going on 2 months in WoW now and had your problem to start. But... I didn't ask this question. However, I went Holy with a touch of Protection and solo'n is fine, almost easy at low levels. I'm 52 now and I wouldn't have it any other way. I can solo efficiently without stopping, and when a group opens up, they love to have me for my supa heals :) Don't let the Ret guys fool ya, Holy/Prot Paladins do damage, but we more or less just outlive our opponents. It may not be as fast but it's safe and steady.

Ret is the way to go. It’s the fastest leveling spec. In the mid-thirties you can go Protection or Holy and have better survivability but at the expense of leveling speed. All three can be good solo builds.

I am currently leveling another Pally and my first 5 point went into Blessing of Might for the added attack power. Then my next five went into Improved Devotion Aura for the added mitigation. When I hit 20 I am going to respec and put the first 5 into Benediction then pick up Improved Judgement and Improved Seal of the Crusader. My last point will be for Seal of Command (SoC). SoC is the seal of choice for dps. This will give you the start of a nice solo build that will do a considerable amount of damage.

Some may say your first five should be in Divine Intellect followed by Spiritual Focus for the uninterrupted heals. Which is fine, that’s what I did with my first Pally. Since I plan on respeccing to get Seal of Command I am not going that route because I would only have uninterrupted heals for one level and I think that I’ll level a bit faster my way.

I should also say that I try not to use mana to heal myself, using it all for dps. While in combat if I need to heal I bubble then bandage, saving precious mana to fight. If this sounds good to you, train and level first aid. When not in combat I eat while drinking to restore mana and health at the same time. You might want to train cooking too.

After SoC my next 15 points will be for Conviction, Crusade, and one point in Eye for an Eye, 2 Handed Weapon Specialization, Sanctity Aura and Improved Sanctity Aura.

Now at level 35 you have the choice of going Holy, Protection or staying Ret for your leveling pleasure.

I suggest trying several builds to see which playstyle you like best.

If you're still wondering:
Put your first 5 points in Divine Intellect in the Holy tree. More mana is good no matter what your spec is later. You'll find alot of opinions on where to go from there...follow any of them and you'll be fine really.

And yes, mining and smithing are good since this is your first WOW character you can make your own armor. That way you dont have to worry about the Auction House and whether you should buy this or that. You can simply set a goals to have silver to purchase recipe training and skillups for pally spells as you level. Make goals to have whatever mail armor waiting to equip by the time you level etc.

Thats how I had fun with it anyway. I also played EQ and really...playing WOW is really more user friendly. Don't stress too much if you're gonna take a wrong turn. It's really easy to recover from it if you do.

Then again, if you got a friend or family playing and you're trying to level fast, ignore all of my advice except the Devine Intellect points =)

Good luck and have fun.

If you couldn't find that the answer to your question was Retribution, then no, you didn't do much research. Any thread anywhere that comes even remotely close to addressing the issue of Paladin leveling and builds will tell you one of two things. Either...

1. Retribution

... and/or...

2. Retribution until 35-ish and then Protection.
