Ced's CarverFollow

Hello sage rogues.....

Are these a worthwhile purchase for future use for a Mutilate Rogue, or by the time I hit 70 will I have already had access to better daggers by running all the 5 mans en route to level 70 (which we will do) ? I have a regular 5 person group without any other dagger users so any dagger drops always come my way.

I have plenty of cash stacked up (at level 56) because I mine and skin and like to trade the AH a lot (Busman's holiday as I am a trader by day). Have bought one of these for 120g already and am tempted to pick up another, but I thought I'd ask the question....? Otherwise I suppose I could save for an Epic Mount.

Finally, I've been looking for endgame armour (blue +) for rogues at the AH and it seems that very little that is interesting appears. Is everything BOP or are their specific items that do get sold at the AH I should be making a point of looking out for please ?

Thanks in advance !

The carver is the best dagger until the Whispering Blade of Slaying (unless you want The Night Blade, which isn't worth its price tag anymore). As for other BoE stuff, here's a list of good stuff.

Pathfinder's Band
Cloak of the Craft
Fel Leather Boots
The Master's Treads
Chestguard of the Dark Stalker

If you are running 5 mans, there is an exactly identical piece that can drop in arca.

[wowitem=28416]Hungering Spineripper[/wowitem].

*edit* Which if you run it with a good team they might accept you into the group. However, it is a level 70 instance so, good luck.

Ced's carver is worth it, and I was main-handing it until I got a better drop.

Ya know, this thread pricks my mind too.

I picked up a Ced's Carver off a guildie who ran Kara last night, for only 90g, so I've at least got ONE dagger to start off with once I hit 70. I'm 67 right now.

I'm using:

The Stalker's Fang from UB: Mainhand http://armory.worldofwarcraft.com/item-info.xml?i=24464

Ceremonial Warmaul Blood-Blade from 'Ring of Blood' Quest in Negrand: Offhand
http://armory.worldofwarcraft.com/item-info.xml?i=25763

I've been surfin Allakhazam and Armory to find something better for my level, to pump up my Mutilate damage a smudge more before I hit 70, but the only real accessible one that I've found so far is the "Twin-Bladed Ripper"
http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=30013&locale=enUS;source=live

I'm in Netherstorm now, so I'll be questing it, and replacing the Stalker's Fang...but besides that, I can't seem to find a better dagger to pick up real quick, to help with all of my quest-grinding, till I hit 70.

And so now I ask..

Once I HIT 70, I've got the Ced's Carver, but what would you 70 Rogues reccommend as picking up ASAP, that doesn't involve weeks of PVP/Arena laboring?

My guild does run Kara, and for our first week, they have already downed 6 out of 8 bosses. So, if there's a dagger drop worth getting from Kara, let me know, plzplz.

Besides that, I'm thinking the first gear upgrade I'm gonna go for once I hit 70 is the "Assassination" gear. I REALLY like that haste bonus you get from wearing 2+ pieces.

I'm so excited. I should hit 68 tonight, and 70 before the end of the week for sure!!

Finally! My first 70! ^.^

The Malchazeen drops off of the prince in Kara. There is also The Riftmaker...good dagger, requires exalted w/ Keepers of Time.

Definetely. Dual-wielding would be a good choice. 1.8 speed heavy daggers with AP and crit rating I believe, not bad at all for mutilate.

Pick up Whispering Blade of Slaying (167 topend) from Murmur in Shadow Labs.

It's the best blue dagger in the game.

If you can't raid, I'd suggest running Black Morass until exalted with Keepers of Time. You get the epic dagger Riftmaker (176) which is also very good.

After that, there is:
[Name] - [topend damage] - [location]
Guile of Khoraazi(156) - Consortium Exalted (sucks for an epic dagger tbh),
The Night Blade (176) - Auction House (if you're loaded),
Vileblade of the Betrayer (181) - Harbinger Skyriss, Heroic Arcatraz
Emerald Ripper (189) - Moroes, Karazhan
Malchazeen (199) - Prince, Karazhan

Thanks for the responses everyone, esp. Nooble and Flager for the details.

I shall buy another Carver and look out for Nightblade when I am properly rich.

25 runs of one instance to become exalted and get Riftmaker sounds a bit painful to me. Raiding, well, hmmm, we'll see, I never used to be able to find the time on my Hunter and can't imagine it'll be any different with my rogue.

Presumably Fel Steel Whisper knives are the best option for ranged (again, in the AH purchaseable category) ?

Cheers all.

The Night Blade is trash. I only included it for completeness's sake. The Whispering Blade of Slaying is better, and won't cost you 1,000g+.

Getting to Revered is easy as there is a quest that you get down there that goes to Old Hills first then to Black Morass. Once completed you get 10,000 rep. This was my first heroic key and only took couple runs + quest.

Then if you just run Black Morass you could probably polish it off pretty quick. Black Morass is only a 30min run so you could pound it out pretty fast with a good group (1110 rep for full clear). And it's basically all fighting and no walking so it's kind of fun. Just don't wipe, RESET!. Which blows but does happen on occasion.

IMO, especially with daily quest giving you around 60-70g a day, it's worth buying 2 Ced's Carver for 200-300g.

Granted, the dagger from Murmur is better, but actually having two high quality blue weapons right away (since odds are you'll make the gold in the 3-4 days faster then you'll get that drop) will not only boost your dps significantly but also free you from endless shadow lab run.

I must be lucky then, bought one for 80G of AH and one of someone in trade for 85G (Emeriss EU server).

I saw the prices drop down even lower after i bought them, around 70-79G, then after a week or so prices went up again to 100-120G area. For once i did something good on AH :D

On a related note, I too am leveling fast to 70 and want to have as much of my gear ready. I already have my mats for Battlemaster, debating the jump to Mongoose, but that is a different story. My real question is about Retainers blade, the Scryers rep dagger. I plan on using it mainhand for a while until I can get the Riftmaker, or ?Nightblade?, then switching to offhand. I saw no one mentioned it when talking about daggers to get for rogues, is there a reason for it or just an oversight. Scryers rep is easy just buy arcane tome after arcane tome, easy.

I guess I am rambling and going on and on forever, but when I hit 70, until I can get other rep daggers or rare/epic raid instance drops, should I use Retainers Blade mh/ Ceds Carver oh?

Terrible enchant, especially for a Rogue. Generates tons of threat, and that's something we don't want.

It's not that great of a dagger, especially for mainhand. Go for 1.8 speed, 1.6 is the lowest you should even consider. Ced's Carver is a much better MH than the Retainer's Blade, and it will be much cheaper than getting exalted with the scryers.

Like I said, The Night Blade is trash, don't waste your money. I'm not just bashing it for no reason. I had one before the nerf, and it was awesome. I still have it after the nerf, and it's a piece of junk. Don't waste your money, WBoS is better.

It's exceptionally rare. There are all of 4 of them on my server (horde side). It's also terrible now that the proc rate was reduced to 5%.

Never seen that dagger before, pretty nice. I'd probably go Shiv/Carver just for variety, both are very good weapons.

I am still using mine offhand, I have a whispering blade in my main hand. When I get my Merc shanker the carver is going to the vendor though.

Just an update:

If you want a free Ced's Carver (and your epic flying mount in a few days) go farm the Mechanar chest.

If you don't know about it yet... Hmm.. sucks for you. (google and o-boards are your friends).

Hurry up before they nerf it!

In 2 days I got:

2x Ced's carver
1x essence focuser
3x Crytalforged waraxe
1x Crystal Pulse shield
1x Girdle of Gale force
2x Oathkeeper
1x The bringer of death

+ tons of potions, scrolls, green and BLUE gems.

I heard about a dude who got a Blinkstrike! Anyways, go go, they move the chests next patch!

The money isn't very steady. The Arcatraz chest was much better, since it didn't have multiple spawn points. You can make more money doing other things, that will be much more reliable.

It is good, mindless cash, though.

I got REALLY lucky and had the night blade given to me by a guildie, for free. I already had the reatainer's blade.

I would agree completely, but see above statement. My reason for quoting you though...what nerf?

Original proc rate: 21% (approximation based on a few thousand hits).
Current proc rate: 5%

Takes about 20 seconds on average to get a proc. The proc lasts 10 seconds. This means it stacking at all requires you beat the odds statistically. Hitting 3 stacks will happen once every few thousand hits (not kidding, I tested it extensively when the nerf hit).

For all intents and purposes, you can consider the proc nonexistent.

I think it's awesome money. With a naked sub-specced rogue (for elusivness, prep and camo) logged outside tempest keep I can do 5x runs in 15-20 mins every hour.

The LEAST you get from that chest is:

6-7g cash
one green item
A few pots
one green gem

I'm an enchanter and the green item disenchant on average into 4 arcane dust (often 5 actually). Seeing as arcane dust goes for 2,5g for my server, each of the green gems goes for 1g and pots for for 2g a piece, I make around

6g + (4 * 2,5g) + 4g + 1g = 21g per chest MINIMUM!

Five chests equals 100g for 20 minutes work. Not to shabby. Combine with the Blue gem (30-75g a piece) or blue item (30-300g) I get every hour and you got a very serious g/effort rate.

Im leveling my 48 lock and every hour I log into rogue and do 5 runs. In 3 days I made like 3000g or so.

The problem is that the chest isn't there every time, generally 2 in 5, or maybe 3 in five on a good run. I've had it be there 0/5 more often than 5/5. The pots are also not a sure thing, many times there won't be any. The only thing in the chest that's guaranteed is a green and 6g.

Even if every chest were worth 50g, and it was there every time, a rogue enchanter can make more money elsewhere. I speed run BRD, and have timed my run to be almost exactly 12 minutes (works perfectly with the instance reset timer). I kill Incendius, that mage guy with the dog (don't remember his name), pyromancer loregrain, Phalanx, Panzor (if he's up), and complete the summoner's tomb event. That's a minimum of 5 large brilliant shards (10g each on most servers), and a couple smalls (or just vendor the small brilliant items, usually sell for more to a vendor anyway). That's about 250g an hour, not counting random drops they have, the small brilliant shard items and the shot at the fiery formula (50g on my server).

Very fast, very steady money.
