I'm using affliction to level and it's serving me well.

Obviously the majority of posts in this forum will be pro warlock. I've found with a mage you can kill things fast but then have to sit down and drink to regain mana, whereas with a lock I can mana tap and move straight onto the next mob.

However in later levels, I would say a frost mage would probably win in the leveling race because they can use AoE frost spells to take on loads of mobs at once and only have to sit down and drink once afterwards, though some people can AoE with a lock by using Howl of Terror and fearing multiple mobs away whilst their DoTs tick away. I haven't tried this though and I haven't seen it in action.

i found for solo'ing you cant beat Demo, using your voidwalker to tank allows you to take on stronger mobs (particuarly good for solo'ing elites) and when you get higher level the felguard is like your own personal warrior

ya that was the thing i cant decide on demo or aff cause i know that demo will help with tanking in the later lvls i dont really know. but i think i want to go affliction

Make a Mage. We're getting a big nerf bat soon, so stay away from this class if damage and utility is all you're about.

It's not that big of a nurf. only resiliance (sp?) to dots right? didn't read all the patch notes yet.

It's a slight nerf, and it is only going to matter to arena teams with more than 2000 rating. Anyone below that rating can't stack enough resilience for it to matter.

@ the OP: Demo is a very easy build, is less gear dependent, and can be a lot more fun in PvP than affliction (right off the bat, too!)

Affliction scales better with gear, which means you will get more bang for your buck.

Leveling specs.. demo falls short before the Felguard at 56. After your Felguard picks up Demonic Frenzy, it comes down to personal preference. Both will get you to 70 though.

Resilience isn't a nerf in perspective. I think there's much more to come.

Definately. People DESPISE warlocks, blizzard has a habit of listening to the mob mentality.

Mage versus Lock? I tried both. I still play the lock. Now as to why?

If you are going for XP over Time, in other words you're looking at your XP per hour as your basis for your decision (which, let me point out, is rather stupid - go with which class suits your playstyle the best). Having said that, Warlocks have a higher XP/Hour than almost any casting class. Especially Affliction Warlocks since we can Syphon Life, Drain Life, Drain Mana and Life Tap to ensure both Health and Mana stay full at nearly all times. For xp/hour I don't think any class can beat us.

Still, try both Mage and Warlock for twenty levels and see which you enjoy more.

PS (An Edit): I like Warlock more because there is just something uplifting about being in PVP, getting your butt kicked as time rolls on and then when you are down to about 10% health, knowing you are about to die and unable to cast anything but an instant - and seeing your enemy drop dead as your multiple DOT's do their damage on that final tick. Makes me all tingly inside.

The resilience thing? Not looking forward to it. Theres 2 classes that beat me some of the time. Not always though. I'm too good for that =P.

Priest and Rogue. Ugh. Can't stand them.
