instead of saying %'s... do numbers, it's a hell of alot easier =/ at 26, you'd have 17 points, so i'm guessing you're meaning something kinda like 0/7/10? or maybe 0/6/11 (mind flay) <--- most likely. use numbers next time.

ok. talents... easy soloing, don't go shadow til 50+, trust me -_-; i'm trying to get enough gold to respec yet AGAIN to get out of shadow (shadow's great for pvp, but it's not good at all for pve until 50+ (vampiric touch)... at 26, try this build, and continue on down the discipline tree until you hit 50, should be good mana management with this:

at 49, here's just an idea of what you might go for.

and at 50, when the perfect time to spec to full shadow...

do remember these are just ideas, go any build you want, i'm just here to throw some suggestions your way if you want easy leveling and better mana juggling. at 26 all you really need is hf, mb, sw:p, and wand, and a renew after the fight is better mana efficient than a pw:s before the fight.
hf - holy fire
mb - mind blast
sw:p - shadow word: pain
pw:s - power word: shield
bfd - blackfathom depths (instance)(just in case someone reading this doesn't know one/any of these)

:edit post for adding further info ---v

as for gear, at 26, get as much spirit as you can, more spirit, less downtime with this build, get int as a secondary most importancy, if you're wanding alot, it's less important, so stam may even be more of a necessity, so of spirit, of the owl, and of the whale gear, and of the eagle gear (and blues, like leech pants from bfd) will be what you look for in AH/drops. once you spec shadow at 50 though, for the love of azeroth(sp?) and all things in it, get all the spell damage gear you can, stats wont matter as much, you'll be nuking everything down in seconds the more spell damage gear you get (if you're at 49, i actually think it may be reasonable to BG tons with either the same build you have, or going shadow a level early, and get a bunch of tokens, save up, get the shoes, belt, bubble trinket, and anything else you may like from doing AB and wsg, at 40+ you can do av, but i've seen the gear =/ ab is better imho), hope this helped you some XD

I very much fail to see how Disc is superior to Shadow for mana. I can throw math at you if you want:

Level 22:
Smite - 1.03dmg/mana
Holy Fire - 1.39dmg/mana
Mind Blast - 1.05dmg/mana
Mind Flay - 1.67dmg/mana
SWP - 1.33dmg/mana

And shadow just keeps pulling ahead from there...
Level 40 build:
Smite - 1.22dmg/mana using your build
Holy Fire - 1.74dmg/mana using your build
Mind Blast - 1.9dmg/mana without Weaving
Mind Flay - 2.77dmg/mana without Weaving
SWP - 2.68dmg/mana without Weaving

If you run oom with shadow faster than with Disc, quite honestly, you fail. If you're running oom while healing in instances, try using Gheal and Renew instead of Flash and Shield, and don't chaincast but spend as much time gaining mana as you can (without putting tanks or others at risk of dying). If you're gaining aggro, slow down on the damage.

By the way, that is the build I'd recommend as you level. After Shadowform, get Shadow Power, Misery, and VT, and then start working towards Meditation and Inner Focus in Discipline.

For items, it doesn't actually matter that much. I was pretty much an idiot when I leveled, and basically grabbed gear based on what had more numbers. Spirit is preferable though, with intellect and stamina coming next. Don't worry too much about +dmg or +heal items until you get into at least mid-40's, as that's when items start getting both +dmg AND decent sta/int/spi, rather than one or the other.

EDIT: That mana efficiency part was mentioned in another thread. Have 20 thread sopen at once gets you mixed up sometimes >.>

for a person with a high priest i would have expected you to know more about the 3 second delay for spirit regen while not casting, yes shadow is fine if you're dps happy and have the mana to splurge, pure int gear and depending on spirit tap after every mob, i'll enjoy taking my time killing a mob 4 seconds slower, but with 0 downtime at all =/ even taking multiple mobs.

while youo're using wand you still regen mana because it doesn't count as casting a spell, so, holy fire, mind blast, sw:p and wand, the very mild dot from HF and the quite lovely dot from sw:p in combo with your wanding, mob dies, you leave with full mana and only have to use a single flashheal =/ yay, next mob please. particularly easy now with the +healing/damage cloth gear that replaced any 'agi' on cloth armor, mobs should be downing easy as pie. the dps is high enough that this is all ya need, you'll always have mana to heal after a fight and shield if you're not wanting to heal, but the mana is worse off if you shield (but less durability loss on gear, so that's also up to you)

Also, blackout is a no no for leveling. It has very minimal usage for leveling, interrupting the damage of mobs for 3 seconds, and maybe letting you get off another mind flay. Also, it seems to stun mobs when they are out of range of your mind flay, making you waste the 3 seconds by running closer to them.

So here's IMO the BEST leveling spec pre-40.

10-14: 5/5 Wand Specialization - get a good wand, search the AH for the lesser and then greater magic wands, and try to upgrade it every 4-5 levels.

15-19 5/5 Spirit Tap - get it, stack spirit gear as much as possible, but make sure to maintain enough stamina and intellect so you don't run out of mana or die too quickly

20-21 2/2 Imp. Shadow Word: Pain - get this, pre-mind flay and even pre-Shadowform, the way that I leveled was cast, Mind Blast, then SW: Pain, then wand the mob to death. This gives you two free ticks of SD: Pain for no extra mana

22-24 3/5 Shadow Focus - slightly a "filler" talent until later on in the game, but does up your DPS and allow you to take on mobs 3-4 levels higher than you with relative ease

25 1/1 Mind Flay - at this point, MF does not deal that much damage, but still get it. I found myself still using the MB/SW:P, wand rotation most of the time, but I'd use MF a lot on runner mobs or times when I was in a group

26-29 4/5 Imp. MB - this ups your DPS incredibly if you're using MB every time it's off CD, but is slightly a filler talent until later on

30-32 3/5 Shadow Weaving - I find that a 60% chance of upping your damage was plenty while leveling, and didn't bother getting 5/5 till around level 55 I think. Some people say get Shadow Reach first, and either talent is a good choice

33-34 2/2 Shadow Reach - makes MF a lot more useful by allowing you to get ~ 2 full MF's in before the mob gets to you, as long as you are moving backwards during the Global CD of SD: P

35 Vampiric Embrace - get it, not only is it a stepping stone to Shadowform, but makes it so you basically never have to bandage/eat/heal. Just cast it on a mob every 3-4 fights and you'll be back at around full health.

36-37 Imp. VE - get this as well, just makes one of the best Shadow tree spells even better, especially in groups. (Later, when raiding, not as useful)

38-39 5/5 Shadow Weaving or 2/3 Focused Mind - your choice really, by this point it won't really make a difference

Level 40 (YAY!!!!) respec to http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=bZZxMhpMxR0t

I cannot stress enough how important it is to have the best wand possible pre-40. A good wand and with wand spec. can and WILL give you more DPS than the majority of your shadow spells. Also, if you wand once you've cast MB and SW:D, you'll be regenerating mana before the fight is even over, as well as getting spirit tap once the mobs is dead. If you stack tons of spirit, you will rarely have to drink, and once you get VE you barely ever have to stop killing things.

Disc for leveling, while doable is just inferior to Shadow. I'd say just use the build I posted above.

No... just no. Don't spout off things that just aren't true. Shadow is far superior to Disc or Holy for leveling. You don't need to be specced holy to heal essentially any instnace pre-70. Vampiric Touch while an amazing spell, is not class making or breaking. What the hell did people do for the two years before TBC?

Also no. Once you hit 50, there will still not be a multitude of spell damage items. Stay with the stacking of spirit and some stam and intel. If you look for the spell damage items you're simply gimping yourself. Also, don't waste time PvPing for gear. If you want to PvP, go ahead and do so, but not because some guy told you it is fast to get gear.

Please, if you want to level fast. Go with the spec I suggested at the top. Stack tons of spirit with enough Stamina to keep you alive and enough intel to sustain you. Once you get VE, you will rarely need to drink or eat. Once you get to Outland, just get all the quest rewards.
