Belt of the Black Eagle Crafted <NOTE> requires 2 Nether Vortex, and those only drop in TK/SSC (and are BoP) so getting them will be expensive.

as nether vortex is no longer bop you can get belt fairly easily now if you know someone who can craft it for you and have a skinning friend for the wind scales. you can get 2 nether vortex for 30 badges or just buy them off the ah. so this is the best pre kara belt you can get and also relitively easy to obtain.

Is it only me or is it absurd to recommend gear available at SSC/TK level for a pre-raid gear list?
While this belt is nice, and now somewhat easy to obtain (~1k gold I'd guess when you want to buy the vortexes), it is in no way needed to get ready for raiding (read: for doing tier 4 content).

While there is a lot of gear now avaible, I'd not include every item in here. You can get ready for Kara & Gruul with a lot less gear.

Its in the pre-raid epics list.
That contains a bunch more expesive things for those people who have a lot of gold or such.
the real pre-raid list is made up out of blue's only, and the stats to aim for are also made from that point of view.

The belt is however a really good belt that (given that you have the cash) is worth the expense.

while it might be primaraly a pre-raid gear list i have found it extremly useful for ideas on how to improve my character outside of raid nights and for that i'm very greatful to aethien. my raid group is far from the best and attumen is the only one who has ever dropped me anything in kara, but the first time I clear kara I want to be with them. i'm therefore limited to items i can obtain outside of raids and this is one of the easier ones to obtain for a survival hunter. i ran heroic ramparts five times and shadowlabs twice before murmur dropped his belt. the crafted one cost me 500g in mats 100g crafting fee, 3 hours grinding primal air and a favour from a mate for the windscales. I would tend to agree that an item of this quality shouldn't be easier to obtain than the pre kara blue i was trying to obtain before this became available, but blizz are in dumbing down mode so that's the way it is.

With the cost of the thing it really is only available to people who have either been 70 for a while, have another lvl 70 main or buy gold.
The last category cant be helped, as they would spendt the gold on a place in a raid to get the item they want otherwise.
the other 2 i really cant be bothered with them having it.
If you are lvl 70 for a while and more or less stuck in progression its still nice to be able to upgrade some things where as its never bad to be able to boost an alt closer to your own lvl of gear so it can be useful to your guild.

The Breeching Comet, Magister's Terrace Heroic seems like a great choice for survival hunters and you can use two as it's not unique equip, but might be useful to add alternative options to use while waiting for the second one to drop. The consortium rep dagger 19 agil 38 ap looks like a good option, but I was wondering if there is anything better and for once the answer isn't on this thread.

What are your feelings on the Sun-Forged Cleaver from MgT its one hand and not unique so you can get 2 and it looks nice.

twice that gives you:
40 agi
56 AP.
26 crit
30 haste
Comparing that to say the Hellfire rep spear
SFCx2--HFPRep
40 agi 61
56 Ap. 92
26 crt 00
30 hst 00
00 hit 19
so - 57 Ap, + ~0.7% crit, - 1.2% hit, + 1.9% haste.
And you lose in agility.... it might fit in there but with the haste its really doubtful wether or not it will give you an increase in dps.

Try the S3 axe, It costs a meager 1k arena points (~700-750 once S4 is released) and its an upgrade for you :P

One that will most likely last you beyond T5 content too :)

I have yet to step in the arena but i recently joined a 3s team with my guild mates so hopefully i can get the 1k points in a decent amount of time. The team is Resto druid demonology lock and me BM hunter

It implies that it is epic gear obtainable outside of raids, not gear you shouldnt use to raid :)

I have a quick question about my hit%. Its at 5.64%, but I have 3 points in sure footed. Just wanna make sure that it actually does bring the hit up to 8.64, since it doesnt show it if it does. Also, if anyone has any suggestions on my gear please say so. I never ran kara before, but besides some of the enchants I know I still need to get/change (been saving for the epic mount instead) I feel like my gear is good enough to run kara with. I find myself doing very well dps wise in groups, especially for being a survival hunter.

sufooted does indeed give 3% +hit and also doesnt show.

As for gear, you need to gem and enchante the whole thing.
Might cost you a few hundred gold, but so will raiding anyway.

Hell, I'm 4/9 BT, 4/5 MH and i dont have an epic flyer ;)

Hey Aethien, are you going to update this for S4 or is S2 not really that great for Kara like S1 is? Just wondering as I think it'd be easier to get some S2 instead of trying to get heroic epix to drop with some of the low drop rates reported.

I havent updated with S2 yet, simply because I dont really wantto.
I dread having to advice people to grind BG's to prepare for raiding.

I think it is obvious that if S1 gear was good and had the little !! next to it, the S2 gear would be even better (besides you can't get S1 anymore can you?)

Hey Aethien, I was checking to see what I could do with the tons of Spirit Shards I have lying around, and I noticed a little gem of an epic ring called Band of the Exorcist.

I don't see it on the list, but it's a pretty nice ring for 50 spirit shards. Sure, it has a bit of resilience, but it's a nice side-grade to Ring of Arathi Warlords if you need a little bit of extra hit.
