I was looking at Petopia last night and noticed a new rank of Furious Howl taught by the Den Mother in Blade's Edge Mountains. (can't remember the mob's name, but she's called the Den mother)
really? ^^

(and its Rema i think)

It is Rema, and she only has rank 4 of Furious howl, which was available Pre-BC from Bloodaxe Worgs. I'm sure it was difficult to get it, because it came from Blackrock spire.

Party members within 15 yards of the wolf receive an extra 45 to 57 damage to their next physical attack. Lasts 10 seconds.

an extra 45 to 57 damage every 10 seconds from players within 15 yards is still really lackluster to me. I'd still rather have my ravager that does 10% more base damage, can learn bite (just like wolves), and has Gore. Gore has a 50% chance to deal double damage. According to Scrolling Combat Text, that double damage is applied as 2 seperate hits, which can both crit- giving the chance of quadrupling damage.

grr... actually just talking about that pisses me off. I got into an argument with my best friend's boyfriend about pets. He's still convinced that wolves are better. He's the kind of guy who will stop you mid-sentence, and not listen to the facts.

And he's not even a hunter. He's a rogue. -_-; Sorry, OT... I just had to vent.

Ah, in that case there still isnt a new one =(
It should really be almost doubled for it to start being good again i think...

It now gives ~4.6 dps for each member of the group so a total of ~22.4 dps
And i guess the ravager does more then that.

Edit: Update, i marked the items i find best with ! and added a load of cloaks that for some vague reason i was missing =P

Hey Aethien, I'm looking at possibly getting a windserpent.

What are some general rules for it?
Do you need to be BM or MM with X AP for lightning breathe to be effective?
What are it's combat rules, have it stay back and just cast lightning breathe, or send it in with bite and LB on auto cast?
If you just leave it staying back will you need to put cobra reflexes etc on it?

Also, with the infinite crit SV spec, would it be better to take 2 points from survivalist and put it in improved FD?
And is deterrence that needed, I know it is the "Oh ****" button but with proper threat management, IFD, and a good group/ kiting skill (For those cases where the tanks dead, and boss is at below X%) is it really needed?
It seems like with SV theres a bit of waste, but then again you gota put some serious pointage to get EW.
And will IAotH affect your ability to weave in your arcanes etc without cliping (with 2.8 speed)?

Just give your WS all the usual talents (including cobra reflexes, bite etc) so you can send it in when possible or keep it at distance if needed.
And with SV it should be nice, loads of crits + GftT = loads of LB's

Personally I dont like imp. feign, it is so rarely resisted that I just dont see the point of taking it, especially if it costs me 4% extra hp.
Deterrence is an O SHI~ button, and its mainly in there because it can save your *** occasionally.
And I've had quite a few nice experiences with it (like tanking in heroic UB when our tank got a battlerez =P) but it isnt needed.
It'll only affect your weaving if you have a 2.2 or 2.3 weaponspeed weapon.
(wich dont exist at lvl 70ish)
With a 2.6-2.8 weapon you'll fall back to a 1:1 rotation for the duration of hawk but thats about the impact it has.

but that doesnt make it a good ring, its still a sucky ring.
Thus why i am thinking of kicking it out.
There are just to many better and easier options for it to deserve a place.

edit: there are rep and questrings equal to it, so there isnt much luck involved in those either.
Whatever. It's your list, pull it if you want to pull it. But there are very few rings which are its equal for providing both respectable DPS while also having the huge 31 STA which it gives. Several rings edge it out by a slim margin in DPS, but STA has a value I think you're overlooking.

i dont deny that stamina has great value, and there are rings with 27 stamina and better offensive stuff too.

Not to mention the fact that its quite easy to reach 7k hp.

and that 22.4 DPS is assuming that everyone else in the group is within the 15 yards, correct?

Personally, I'm almost always too far away to receive the buff, and I'm almost NEVER in a group with 5 physical DPS classes.

Aethien, any chance you'll update the macros section with the new "!" commands for auto-shot?

This works in place of the one in the macro section:

/cast [target=pettarget, exists] Kill Command
/cast !Auto Shot, Steady Shot
/script UIErrorsFrame:Clear()

I'm in all Kara/Badge epics, and I just barely break over the 1700ap/20% crit mark you posted =/

It pains me to know someone can do that in all Blues, and a bit of heroic gear. I must be doing something wrong, and I think it's my trinkets. (Which are gonna change real soon once I get my bloodlust brooch) But yeah...0_o?

i'm in half epics and as S at 659 agi, 25.something%crit, 1722 AP (selfbuffed), nearly 8k hp and 6.4k mana...

As BM with only 2 epics i had 1700 and a bit Ap, 19.8% crit, 6.9k hp and 6.6k mana or something close to that... (though only something like 5.5% +hit)

Comparing rings, I picked this up from a quest chain and thought it was pretty good, better than some on the list. What am I missing?

Quest

slayer - Naliko
16 agi - 00
25 sta - 27
00 Ap. - 34
00 crt - 18
Naliko's has 2 more stamina, 18 more AP and more then double the crit of the ogre slayer.
the 'standard' blue ring has 15 agi, 50 AP and 10 hit wich is also a lot better then the slayer band imo.

"Standard" Slayer

OK I saw agi/stam and figured it was good for hunters, just better than what I had, and it is rare for a lower quest reward to replace something at 70.

Hey Aethien,

I just wanted to suggest maybe placing a link to Cheeky's Spreadsheet somewhere in the main post. I'm sure you're familiar with it, but if you're not, it's a spreadsheet that let's you upload your armory info and see how different gear/gems/enchants/shot rotations/etc will affect your DPS and other stats.

I feel like a complete ****** but I can't figure out how to use Cheeky's spreadsheet. I've looked through the forum but nothing popped out at me.

Can someone please shed some light on my darkened room?

I'm able to manually enter all of my gear, and it works great at that. But I do see that it suggests that it can grab your gear from the Armory, and that feature I have never been able to make function.

Cheeky's Spreadsheet was originally posted here. So there's a bunch of info on how to use it and all the calculations that went into it there too. :)

Updated a couple things, replaced the blue pvp gear by S1 gear (wich is pretty much equal to blues for PvE)
And i played around with Warcrafter.net to see what the 'optimal gear' i picked would give in the way of stats if gemmd and enchanted properly.
These are the results:
Beastmastery
Marksmen
Survival
(Note: you need to activate AotH (and TSA) yourself because it refuses to remember buffs)

Also, check how this gear pretty much makes the mark for stats to aim for.
BM is lower on AP, but a couple % higher on crit wich will end up better in raids due to the amount of AP you get from buffs vs the amount of crit.
Hunters mark and BoMight alone give a combined 660(!) AP.

SV is fat and easy over the mark on both crit and Ap so i'm pushing those stats up a bit, and downgrading BM a tiny bit.
MM seems to land exactly where its supposed to on AP with higher crit.
Or in other words, it seems that i picked those pieces well :)

Edit: with the 'optimal gear' both MM and BM are at +8.2% hit and SV is hitcapped.
And that with all gear from lvl 68-70 instances, some BG's a couple quests and a few heroics ;)
Oh, and also Sv would have 775 agility unbuffed, bloody nice if ye ask me ;)
Edit 2: that would get to 964 agi, 35.05% crit and 2150 AP fully raidbuffed.
2 pieces of gear from heroics (blues), 2 quested things, 2 crafted pieces 1 pvp piece and the rest from lvl 67-70 instances.
I mean damn.... that pretty much good enough for 25 man raids...

another small update: added Magister's Terrace gear, and felstalker bracers are no longer the best blue bracers out there.
(its quite close though)

edit: also added the repstuff, fancy necklace though i dont know what the procrate is like and the X-bow is actually the best pre-raid BM ranged wepaon now.
Though its not that much better then the bloodwarder's if you prefer guns.

I also noticed a mistake i've made, the gun from Mech isnt the best ranged for non BM. its actually the cannon from SV :O

suggested update

Belt of the Black Eagle Crafted <NOTE> requires 2 Nether Vortex, and those only drop in TK/SSC (and are BoP) so getting them will be expensive.

as nether vortex is no longer bop you can get belt fairly easily now if you know someone who can craft it for you and have a skinning friend for the wind scales. you can get 2 nether vortex for 30 badges or just buy them off the ah. so this is the best pre kara belt you can get and also relitively easy to obtain.
