Question for lvl 70 FeralsFollow

Hiya all,

I'm currently at lvl 61 and feral specced. I'm on a PvP server but I am not really interested in PvP as a game, I tried AV for the first time just prior to hitting 61 and to be honest I found it extremely pooh, people don't communicate or talk its just run round hit allies and die. (I'm sure there is ALOT more to it than that but I can only go by my extremely limited experience).

I also haven't done any PvPing in the world since about 48 and everything seems to have changed very dramatically, I don't seem to be able to beat anything.

Feel free to check my build, here is the link:

I know that I am never really going to become a good PvPer, however I am desparately seeking any advice anyone can give me so that I can at least put up a fight rather than getting owned. So far I have had duels with rogues, mages, a priest and a warlock. Against all of these I got annihilated, got feared by the priest, warlock and hunter which then pretty much killed me before fear broke, the rogues used their stun thing and DPS'ed me to death before I got a hit off.

This is my highest level char and I only have this and a 44 warlock so I am still a noob and I am quite prepared to take on any advice because I don't have any ideas with any of it. It does seem like the biggest problem I have is fear and I am planning to put my next 2 talent points in Primal Tenacity, and I know you can get a PvP trinket that removes Fear, Stun, so forth but is there any other way of getting something similar because I really hated AV, I didn't have a clue what was going on, what I was supposed to be doing, etc.

The only thing I would say is if you are going to say things like shift to normal form before the hunter fears you then please tell me how to know if he is trying to cast fear because I have never been a hunter so I don't know what that looks like. Make that 2 things, please don't suggest I switch to Moonkin or Resto because I am very happy with feral and I want to stay with it. :-)

Many many thanks for all the help, I will admit that I probably won't be able to use it to that much effect but I really appreciate any time any one can spare on assisting me.

Only two things I have to say:

1) PvP trinket.

2) Enemy casting bar.

The trinket will let you break a stun/fear once every 5 minutes (2 for the Lv70 expensive one); the enemy casting bar will let you see exactly what someone is casting (good for Hunters casting fear, like you mentioned).

I'm not real big on strategies unfortunately, since my druid is on a Normal server and I don't care to have pvp enabled (I dislike the fact that *I* can sit flagged, but someone else doesn't have to, and they can get an opening shot on me before it flags them, so I just don't pvp :p).

Ohhhh, how do I get to see the enemy cast bar? Is it....... well scratch that cuz it must be something in the interface options. Thank you I will have a look on how to enbale that. Think it will make my life a bit easier.

Do you have to PvP alot to get the trinket and does it have to big groups like AV?

Yeah enemy cast bar is in the interface options, I believe under advanced options though I might be wrong there.

As for the PvP trinket, it's going to run you 3300 honor for the standard one, but you can accumulate that any way you like, AV, AB, WSG, or EotS if you get to 70 soon. It shouldn't take that long to get that much honor, if you can sit through a couple of AV games they give good honor, though you could also get it through AB and WSG fairly quickly.

Your build seems good and your armor for that lvl is ok to. Indeed, get that trinklet for fear. The trick to beat just about all classes is bear form in DPS gear.

If your not seen, go cat and open with a good bang. Afther a vew secs go bear and maim, bash etc.

If your seen just go bear and charge/maim/bash etc.

Have fun killing rogues :)

2 options you need to have on at all times, useful also in instances:
- enemy cast bar (lets you see what they are going to hit you with)
- target of target (lets you see who your attacker is attacking)

Both are found in Interface Options. They are lifesavers in many situations because they can tell you what somebody is preparing, and who is the target of it.

Otherwise I'm also a bad PvPer. My motto is: when in doubt, stealth :P

In addition to having your enemy cast bar enabled, keep Bash, Maim, War Stomp, and Feral Charge close; a druid's ability to instantly go mobile and/or heal in conjunction with those 4 key abilities = one hard to kill ****. Check wowwiki.com for a pretty detailed rundown on strategy vs all classes.

The following are only opinions, take what is stated with a grain of salt if you do not agree with it.

Talents: I would, personally, make additional effort for Survival of the Fittest and either Thick Hide or Natural Shapeshifter.

Survival of the Fittest is basically free resilience and a lot of it, though it only works for melee attacks.

Thick Hide is going to help in both PvP and PvE situations, however, if I had to choose between Thick Hide and Natural Shapeshifter, I'd choose Natural Shapeshifter since you should be changing forms often enough for it to make a huge difference, especially with your limited mana pool being feral.

Gear: Your gear is mostly completely out of date. Most of it needs to be upgraded to Outland gear and in a hurry.

In PvP, the most important stat for druids is stamina. In addition, for Feral PvP, Strength is far better than +attack power, in forms you get approximately 2AP for each strength. These two stats should be followed closely by Agility. You get approximately 1AP for each agility AND armor AND dodge AND critical strike. I wouldn't rely on agility for your damage, however. Not in PvP. With everyone having +resiliance, your base damage is going to mean more than your crit damage.

Definately get your PvP trinket as soon as possible.

Strategy: Use your forms to their advantage. Often you will open with cat form for a big starter burst of damage into a maim situation. At this point, shift to bear form (heal before bear if needed) and hit with a mangle and lacerate a few times, then bash. At this point, your target should be hurting enough to put him on full defensive. Get back in cat form and finish them off.

This is just a sample in optimal conditions, definately not something to go by in every fight.

First and foremost, you need to get to 70 and get some gear. If you don't like PvP, dont do it.

Regarding the first paragraph of your post, Hawkeye.... at 60 or 61 you're at the low end of the bracket, so you're going to get owned a lot no matter how good you are.

As for communication and teamwork, just depends on the team you draw. I've been in a lot like you describe, but also have had a few really good ones. Interesting that your AV experience has been mostly running around killing enemy players. In most of the ones I've done I haven't fought a single player; people just go for the enemy general.

Bottom line for improving your pvp skill is to practice, practice, practice. I've been doing bg for quite a while now, and I'm finally getting to be able to conduct an attack calmly and deliberately, as opposed to just mashing keys. Also learning how to tailor my technique to the class I'm attacking. Makes a huge difference.

Oh, another thing, try to avoid going solo against the enemy. Team up or just follow a fellow player around. You'll rarely find just one enemy to attack, so best not be alone.

Just to point it out... this is a 2-months old Necromancy.
Some things probably changed since then.

I still don't understand why people go all the way to the 10th page or so and rez a dead thread. O_o
