One last note, this is a rough draft, your input is highly valued in these discussions, post away so I can get stuff into the final versions.

Will have the rest up as I can, work is kicking my *** these days.

While I'm thrilled that you are taking it upon yourself to put this together, might I suggest that instead of writing everything from scratch again, to make use of the work that has already been done?

For example, I've recently written a "Talent Review" that covers all three talent trees. Unless it is incredibly bad (I think I did at least a decent job, if not a good one) I don't see why another one needs to be written up from scratch.

I've also written a Talent Progression Guide that has various different specs and the order in which to get the talents as you level. This one only goes from 1 to 60 and needs to be updated to level 70, but to be honest, most people have already figured out what to do talent-wise by the time they hit 60.

Just thought it would save you some time, but if you really want to do all the work yourself; that's ok with me too heh :)

Were you by any chance a tad angry when you wrote this post? Begrudging having to write it? Or perhaps just reviewing some of the useless talents we have been given pis*ed you off?

Anyway, I like it. Some good, solid sarcasm always appeals to me, especially when it's used to get a point across. So yeah, thoroughly enjoyed it so far.

I wasn't angry at all, just sticking with the humor that so many people have come to like in my guides.

As for reviews, I have to do one, been doing them since the mage talent rework.

Talent progression will use a lot of your stuff though, was gonna bug you about it when I got to that point.

awesome: except for arcane potency. if CC is 10% and the other is 30%, then the talent IS effective .03 or 3% of the time. it's math. ya. ok, so i'm not gunna get it b/c i know you were sarcastic, but just bringing attention to it ^^.

Nice writeup, only put in a "PvE POV only" disclaimer in there before you get washed away by those posts/people.
Especially the imp Blink and imp Arc missle comments show that you havent PvP'ed in a looooong time.

(i blink almost everytime up, that skill saves 300 mana which is nice in PvP where i blink a dozen times before i die or drink, imp arc missle is THE interupt spell vs healers and other casters))

I suppose you could get Empowered Arcane Missiles and Arcane Potency, to give you a big chance for a free, high-crit AM salvo. That is, a big chance IF Clearcasting procs.

Lies.

This thread was not about me in any way, shape, or form, and is therefore not the greatest mage post ever. Smiley: wink

Hmmm, I'd say the best class for a mage is.... a mage! Did you mean talent spec? Profession? What class is pwned by mages? What class pwns us?

I think he meant race.

Edited, meant race not class.

Will also add in the viability of missles in PvP.

Arcane Instability - Increases your spell damage and critical strike chance by 3%.

Used to be the sole reason mages went 28 Arcane, a 3% damage and crit increase is just nuts, I HIGHLY recommend it.

Arcane Potency - Increases the critical strike chance of any spell cast while Clearcasting by 30%.

Sounds great in theory, more crit right? Except Clearcasting happens 10% of the time, and a 30% increase on a 10% proc will get you a whopping 3% overall. Really isn't all that great. If it was 3% all the time, it would be worth it.

Kinda contradicting yourself here. While instabability does ofer 3% spelldamage, a chance to gain more overall crit for the minimal investment in the tree is VERY good in long drawn out fights for raiding. Over the long run, you will see the 3% factor in. Also, it can be handy in PVP, should clearcasting proc, you have a 30% chance to crit, ON TOP of what you already have. For me as a fire mage, when clearcasting procs I have over a 65% chance to crit. Very handy indeed. Time for a POM, Power, Pyro to the face with a 65% chance to crit. Daddy like.

Actually arcane potency is kinda fun combined with MoE.
You actually get mana for your spell if it crits.
You get a free spell (clearcast) and if it crits you get 30% mana back.
So you get 100-200 mana AND a free crit.
Highly recommend that talent.

Don't forget to add in that Improved Fireball/Frostbolt reduce the damage the spells do.

Most mages around here know about it, but any newbs that wander by need to be informed(has Blizz even changed the tooltip to reflect this?).

Better wait for 3.0.1 for that.
Anyway newbs won't notice the damage reduction because at the lower levels you don't have +dmg gear anyway (or not enough to make 10% noticeable).
Should be noted here though since it's the best mage post evah.

I noticed.......after I looked at the spell description online and saw I was hitting for less than the lowest amount.

I still think its worth it though.
