This thread isn't really maintained too much anymore.
Generally, you never see forum stickies with advanced gearing info because by the time that you're ready to start replacing epics with BETTER epics, you should generally know:
1) How to use AtlasLoot, Alla, Wowhead, Warcrafter, etc, etc..
2) Exactly where your character needs improvement.
3) What each stat will actually do for you.
Meaning... it shouldn't be needed.

Wow this is a great tutorial. I solo'd to level 70 and wanted to figure out how to actually start playing the game. I've been working to get to uncrushable/uncrittable and no matter how much I seemed to spend on gear I couldn't get there. I'm now seeing how armor and the other stats on gear really affect that. I can see I didn't understand a lot of the aspects of it. I only wish I had known about this tutorial before I spent so much gold and sold so many quest rewards. You did an awesome job!

This may have been addressed/mention/brought up somewhere else here, but since I can't search the threads I'm hoping can either tell me or direct me to the proper thread. Does block or parry drop threat any, raise it, or not affect it? I'm wanting to work out a tank build on my Paladin, and I'm thinking of focusing on AP and HP gear. I'll be MT or off-tank in 5-man and 10-man.
I suggest you re-read this thread and Losie's thread. Stacking AP should not at ALL be a priority. In the expansion you will want STR on your gear, but not right now.

Thanks! I haven't found Losie's thread, and I'm dropping the AP idea. I'll look more into Str and Sta gear, for the warm up :). A guild member did answer my question about parries, since you do get a counter attack it does kinda raise threat, for anyone else who might be wondering :). Thanks again CapJack!

That's nice I guess. Since I got my WoW account back, I was considering updating this for WotLK. Would take a few weeks, tho... I also want to check out how DK's do, for comparison reasons. I really got the feeling they're filling a DPS/OT role, like bears, with the exception perhaps of spellcasting enemies. They're pretty much our complete opposite.

I've been doing some detailed gear research to update my recently unstickied pre-raid gear thread for Wrath, but I'm not interested in covering mechanics in any depth, which is something I've always loved your thread for. Not to mention I can't really make gear advice based on wowhead data without actually using it and going through each gearing phase first :D
