Gnome OR Human Mages?Follow

#1 Mar 16 2007 at 1:09 PM Rating: Decent
Im about to start a mage and I was just woundering, what are the advantages and disadvantages of humanVSgnome mages?
#2 Mar 16 2007 at 1:18 PM Rating: Decent
Gnomes are small, and can hide in a bush rather easy. 5% int racial doesnt really make them the be all of mages.

Humans, depending on the model you choose, can look awesome as mages. 10% more rep gains only makes reputation grinds a bit more faster than any other race, again not game breaking.

Its a matter of which one do you want to stare at for months on end.

Edit-- Certain robes, look damn ugly on female gnomes. While they look better on female humans.

If you are concerned with how your character looks, go human. Otherwise, both have similar benefits. Gnomes get Int and the ability to escape, humans get spirit and the ability to see stealthed.

Humans are better in my opinion. With all the rep grinding at level 70, the 10% bonus is really going to add up to time saved.

In PvP, it's a toss up between Escape Artist and Perception. Rogues are good cloth-killers so Perception is good. Of course, good rogues know when you pop it so they just wait it out :P

Escape Artist is a great racial for PvP; gives you an extra way to break out of roots. An immobile mage often equals a dead mage.

Personally, I just can't get over playing a female character (being a guy myself) it's just too weird for me... I'm weird, I know. But in terms of aesthetics, female human > male human and female gnomes are just so cute :D

Male gnomes scare me...

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Mage gear was designed with a human female in mind...and I loves it. Smiley: grin

Indeed. My favorite in game racial(PvE mage, here).

5% extra intellect, at level 70 with 400 intellect (decent number), would net your Gnome an extra 20 intellect which would give him 300 extra mana.

300 mana at level 70 is peanuts.

Isn't that also more spell crit though? I know it wouldn't be a LOT of spell crit, but 1% maybe?

If you spec deep arcane you also would get more spell damage too, not much, but more than if you were human. I still like the rep increase. I can deal with missing 300 mana and 4 spell damage (or what ever the numbers are). rep grinding sucks.

escape artist, extra int, small n easy to hide.

VS.

big, clumsy, easy to hit, and rep gain.

My lock is Human, I found that the extra rep wasnt all that hot. Yah it does add up, to what an extra 2k rep (Or 1 SH,SV or ARC run). Also once you have the rep, IT DOES NOTHING FOR YOU.

Gnome racials have the gift that keep on giving, day in and day out.

Uh... hmmm, my lock is human and I love being able to see rogues in BGs. Also, half the game at 70 is rep gain....

Despite the fact that I'm leveling up my alliance characters now to play with my wife's guild (OMG, my wife will be my GM... so same as always at home... lol), I maintain that gnomes are only good for punting...

/shakes head
/apologize to gnomes I know... like my wife's gnome mage...
/punt

zomg! I'm gonna get demoted in the guild now for sure!

No it isnt. After being fully exalted for over 7 months, I would say that rep is actually a very small percentage of endgame.

Being exalted in 1 faction maybe... what about being exalted in all of them? It is still a lot of work to get exalted with them all and being human removes a percentage of that.

Gratz to you if your human is exalted in everything. Wait for WotLK and you get to grind some more factions out...

I love gnome punting. I have always found it funny why horde gets the biggest and easiest to target race in the game and alliance gets the littlest, yet biggest pita race to target.
