I have Snarler, a wolf, who I renamed Blackfell. As well as Humar, who I named Skywise. Yes. They have boring names but I like them. ^o^
I recently tamed a serpent and named him, "Imasnakefoo".

I am new / Hunter to WoW, and I just found this thread. I'm level 21 as of right now and was curious...how to you give your pet a custom name? I tamed a male lion from the Barrens/Rachet and it says "Cat" above his head...apears to be a default name or something? Is there a way to change it to something a little less...stupid? Any help would be most appreciated.

Just target the cat by clicking on him. His face will appear to the right of yours at the top of the screen. Right-click on him and then you should be able to change his name that way.
Remember, once you change it that's it! You cannot rename him. You would have to go out and tame a new beast.

I have a Crocolisk called TikTok, sort of themed after the "tick-tocking" crocodile in Peter Pan.
I saw a brilliant name yesterday, and I wish I'd thought of it - the pet was called "Imwithstupid"... it made me chuckle.

I've tamed Death Flayer and renamed him Stryker, and I've also tamed Echeyakee and renamed him Whitemane. Recently tamed a Worg and named him Sarguul. Afterall, I'm an orc and have to keep things simple...

Heh, you do know the end of the story/poem right? I personally wouldn't like random people taring off my pets limbs and looking for it's mother, but hey, that's just me.

Yep, I know the ending, in fact, that's exactly how all of my duels ended (If you look at the fact that all of them were at least 20+...some 60's actually...and I was 13'ish ...and implement that the hunter can pose as a pet's mother) hehe. Though in more than half those duels most of them would skip the whole Grendel vs. Beowulf part and head straight for the "mother". =D silly non-roleplayning geekies with mythological names *grruuuummmbles* Thankfully there was no limb tearing.
And a Beowulf kitty now? Hehe, that's awsome! *thinks of all the pet vs. pet duels* ...ooh, hopefully there aren't any chars named Grendel on your server that would want to pick a bone with you=P

People familiar with the Bolo books will recognize this as a variant of the name of the first mark Bolo that didn't require a human operator (It was 'Resartus').

My level 40 Hunter (Esualcatnas - Anointed Knights). My pet's name is Mittens
I am getting a new pet today (don't know what yet) but am gonna name it Comet.

Well I'm a lvl 23 hunter :( I know a n00b lol. But i have a lvl 20 Nightsaber Stalker and i named her Redeemer... Cause when i get its prowl abil and teach it to her she can redeem creatures souls by sending it to hell. My Crocs name is Revenant. He eats everything and Revenant is the Raiser of the dead... i know... not exactly the same but hey it works.
I didn't name my Humar. My friend did.
I was stupid enough to let him play my Hunter to get a feel for the class, and he noticed I hadn't named my Black Lion pet (which is the only pet with that skin in the game). Afterwards, he claimed that he didn't know that you couldn't rename pets repeatedly, and I had leveled so far, that I didn't want to go back and camp Humar once more.
So now, my pet is named Humar.
I don't mind really. I have managed to stave off other Hunter's rassing the name by saying that I found it disrespectful towards him to both gain his friendship and then taking away the name he had. He should be allowed to keep what was his to begin with.
Now, he is my only pet. I have tamed others over the levels, just for skills, and then promptly released them. My Humar is the only pet I have had since level 23, and he will remain my faithful companion through level 70. The only other pet I actually used for a while, was a wolf. He is now released. He has stayed with me faithfully through some horrible experiences, and never complained. He has saved my life more times than I can count, and partaken in many enjoyable experiences as well. I think I would feel like betraying him by replacing him with someone else. He has grown from a pet, to a friend.
Not to mention, I haven't really seen the need for a different pet. Humar managed to tank the entire BRD instance once (yes, bosses too) without losing aggro once. He has saved our group in Stratholme, and tons of other instances too. In fact, against single targets, level 60 Warriors find it extremely difficult to keep aggro when my Humar is tearing up the target.
Hmm, this turned into a longer post than I intended, but my Humar is a subject I could go on for ages about. My friend, ally, and companion in battle.

Over the time I have been playing, I have developed an obsession with boars. Over the course of several characters I have tamed at least 3 boars and named them as follows: Pork, Dinner, and WhiteMeat.
