List of AOE spots for mageFollow

#102 Jan 12 2007 at 9:43 AM Rating: Decent
There's a little question. I'm 44 and i aoe the wastewater in tanaris waiting to be high enough to aoe the pirate. I use my mount and ice barrier to pull mobs but i usualy have to pop Ice block because Ice barrier fade before all mobs have reach me. Witch Armor do you use and how do you group the mobs without been hit?

#103 Jan 17 2007 at 7:20 AM Rating: Decent
Try doing this.. before u mount put on ice barrier
wait about 5-7 seconds depending if u have artic reach.. and then mount up and pull.. by the time u finish pulling you should have IB cooldown done.

Note: sometimes when gathering you'll take a massive beating but you shouldn't worry cause that's all you should take

Also i was wondering about the combo's patterns that people do.. seems different from mine

What i do is

Ice barrier
mount
gather
unmount
strafe
nova
blink
blizzard
blizzard
nova
coc
arcane explosion x2
thats seems to work just fine and with me having 1k mana left in my pool out of 3692
note i also use
+frost dmg gear
i have +113 to frost dmg

Thx for the advice

My sequence is almost the same:
1-Ice barrier.. (wait a few secs for cool down to start ticking..)
2-Mount up
3-Gather up (finishing with a circular motion.)
4-Dismount
5-Level 1 AE to stop any from resetting (almost no mana cost but still keeps em in combat)
6-CoC (while backing up or strafing which is quicker)
7-Frost Nova
8-Blink
9-Ice barrier again (prolly got hit a few times getting them into position)
10-Blizzard
11-Blizzard
12-CoC again

If they're not dead by now, repeat from #7 :D

I try not to use AE (max level) much.. The mana cost vs. damage is too high. I'll use CoC or just frost nova and blizzard them again.

i was doing an escort quest outside shattrah and, i kid you not, on one single encounter i aggroed close to 10 mobs.

there are ****-loads of mobs in TBC with insane respawn rates. just go where there's a flat field and go get'em.

Currently AOE grinding the crap out of ogres in ZM (pick off the shamans first, then AOEing 6 melee ogres, NW of ZM) and those plant giants in ZM near the sporregar spawning grounds, SW (6-8 at a time).
It isnt as sweet as those vultures in HFP (12-14 at a time), but it does the trick nicely.

Moving to Terrokkar soon, i have some sweet AOE spots in mind there ill post how they turn out.
I rarely get ganked, im on a PvP server, which surpirses me.

I thought an AOEing mage was a tasty gank, people are more respectfull then i thought, most (incl alli) just stand there watching how i do it :)

I still do all the worthwhile quests for rep and gear, exp is really fast though, my comparison is a shadow priest, about quadruple speed.

Aoe at 40 get a little annoying i think there's a little hole there where it's not affective to lvl by aoe just quest to 43-44 where you can start aoe the wastewander in tanaris.

I need a spot in the burning crusage i'm at 60 at the moment i found the vulture but i'm more looking for humanoid who can drop some cloth and money.

Thx

sorry for my english its not my first language.

you forgot to mention the harpies lvl 14-16 in the NW part of barrens. this place rocks i lvl up from 18-19-20 just from frost novaing 4 or 5 in place and spamming arcane explosion in front of them. they have a tendacy to run at low hp but nothing you cant handle.

I went the Questing route post-60 instead of going back to AoE.
The problem with Outland is that although there is no shortage of large groups of mobs, a lot of the times, they have charge/stun abilities and/or have patrolling casters in the mix. Hence, it makes finding a good spot kinda hard.

Quest grinding in Outland is IMO both easier and comparable in xp/hour. Moreover, you'll be able to pickup a lot of nice upgrades from quest rewards.

But anyway, that is my own preference. I haven't actually tried AoE grinding in Outland myself but from the feedback and lack of info on the web, I decided not taking that route.

In my Azeroth days, this is the spell sequence I used with much success from level 40 to 60:

1. Ice Barrier (wait a few seconds)
2. Mount
3. Gather
4. Unmount
5. Strafe + Frost Nova
6. Blink
7. Blizzard
8. Blizzard
9. Strafe + Cone of Cold
10. Strafe + Frost Nova
11. Run a few seconds to get some distance
12. Blizzard
13. Cone of Cold or Arcane Explosion (if necessary, sometimes 1 or 2 stragglers left alive)

currently lvl 16 trying the aoe thing...

at the savanah lion mobs north of Grom'dol farm.

gathe them and keep em with me with arcane explosion till i have abt 6-9.

then cycle:

1 FN
2 Flamestrike/ or bandage depends on how bad i got hit during gathering
3 spam arcane explosion till their dead
4 if needed/possible 2d FN

still dieing alot though, using elixers of def but think i need some xtra health, got 647 now (couple enchants) still getting between 10k and 20k an hour according to add on (experienceFU) depends on how often i die ;)

will keep ya updated

ok so i hit 20 hard to find a nice spot for lvl 19, i sugest to stay in the barrens for horde(oh btw in undead mage).

the lions give nice xp till lvl 19, u can also try the plainstriders that are agressive, between boulderlode mine and the sludge fen thats where i did the last 50% of lvl 19, slow spawn yeh i know.

Fenris isle/keep u dont wanna try at lvl 19 u get owned or maybe i just suck :p

at lvl 20 i still think its pretty hard at fenris but just need to fnd a nice route to pull yet.

think ill respecc and have cold snap at lvl 24 instead of lvl 20, and get imp blizz first... we all make mistakes /cry (??)

died over 100 times today just trying to find a good spot.

beren's peril is nice but hard to pull a nice group of undeads there and not a lot of room to succesfully kite...so after 10 deaths i gave up there.

tried the riverpaws at westfall till i found out they backstabbed me to often so i died couple of times there also.

Ravenhill is still bit to high at lvl 19 , i would suggest lvl 22 here at least.

yeh what the hell was i doing there as horde, just trying to find a nice spot!!!

took me a lot of time to realise barrens is good to grind to lvl 20 maybe even to 26 think ill check southern barrens if i die 1 more time in fenris isle...

so aoe mage from lvl 16 to now i like it alot, maybe someone with bit more experience can comment on cycles and stuff, cose i had to (semi) twink myself to get enough mana and health to survive at this lvl...sta enchants on everything possible, yeh even clefthide legarmor kit on noob legs :S, and minor speed on boots, it greatly helps but my advice if u just getting started and dont have a high lvl main to support other chars, dont try aoe grinding at lvl 16 already lvl to at least 20-23 so u have max imp blizz.

at lvl 19 i have 1k9+ hp and 1.4k+ manaand stil i ran oom at the end, just barely killing the mobs i pulled, arcane explosion isnt the most mana efficient way ;) getting smoked sagefishe helps a bit.

hope this info is usefull to someone, and will update later on other spots i found to grind

me again, still not getting 40k an hour but an decent 15k-25k this time at northwatch Hold in the barrens, took me a couple of times to get the pull right but if i dont take more then 6-10 its ok... the casters are bit annoying but nothing big really.

before they run try to get a FN in and then blizz them to death :D

GL fellow low lvl mages

Edit*

btw i cant get 2 blizzards yet on the kite so i still spam arcane explosion till i can get a 2nd FN in then a 2nd blizz to finish them off

lvl 22 now, 33 in imp blizzard, and its GREAT!!!!

going at fenris isle again doing it in 3 pulls.

from the gates to the ramp at the end, kits back to the gate.

then the left side, kite to the gate again(well that way)

then the right side, u wanna pull from the back to the front here to have a nice kite path...

becarefull not to hit the respawns when doing this routine, getting abt 20k xp an hour here think thats pretty nice for my lvl...

mostly they not dead after 2 blizzards so nova them again and kill em, 1 or 2 blasts of arcane explosion should be enough.

1400health 1800 mana atm, dont ask i know i got to much cash ;)
in abt couple of lvls etting the stuff from SFK then even more mana end health...
got 3int enchant at wep, 100health on chest and 9sta on bracers, minor speed on boots... if u can afford it it helps a lot.

any enchant is better then no enchant, alot of ppl lvling enchanting will give them away for free at lower lvl or very cheap, so when u are in a city check the trade channel u might be lucky :D

cant wait ill i have arctic reach, then it will be even better.

Just hit lvl 52, and was getting REAL bored with lost rigger cove....been there since 44.

Did some research, found Sorrow Hill in W Plaguelands....and havta say its THE BOMB.

Admittedly, you can get a lot of competition for the mobs; but I find AoEing there after midnight to 7am awesome, the whole area's mine! To a lesser extent, between school hours is good too.

You probably won't hit 40k/hour until you get close to level 40 and beyond. Don't expect that kind of xp at sub-30 levels.

Sorrow Hill is a good choice between level 50 and 54. I tried Dalson's Tears at level 52 and found it a little difficult (do-able, but took quite a lot of effort and very small margin for mistakes). When I hit level 54 I went back to Dalson's and found it was quite easy. If you are Undead, Dalson's Tears will be easier for you due to Will of the Forsaken. As a Human mage, it was pretty rough at first until I got the hang of the fears.

In general, Dalson's > Sorrow Hill IMHO because
A) less competition
B) wider area to maneuver

Thanks, I did 52-58 at dalson's tears already, then some guy talked me into a portal to shattrath, so I guess I'm done with the whole aoe thing for now, quest rewards are too awesome not to get atm.
