Are you going to reflect the fact that Arcane is a really good end-game spec and not the piece of crap you make it out to be in the final revision?

Now that more people are getting the set bonus to make it viable, yeah I'll toss it in there.

I'm currently level 45, pure fire build. It works for killing stuff quickly, and with Combustion active, I crit almost every time, so by the time mobs reach melee range, a quick instant cast spell destroys them. I'll post my build here sometime for new mages to consider/veteran mages to critique.

I must say I admire your panache in the intro, Baron. Well played indeed.

Just realized you haven't posted a build direcly relating to the 2-piece Tier5 mage set, I'm researching it right now and will post something if I find it.

I said I was going to put it in there somewhere in this thread, and basically ****** off and forgot.

I'll wrap it up by the end of this coming weekend I promise.

I have actually found that according to my theorycrafting calculators that the 10/48/3 build still does more dps than a standard ABx3+am+scorch rotation with the two-piece tier 5.

hey. hi. ummmmm im new. my plan for a build is this

http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/mage/talents.html?0000000000000000000000055522001200303105010512035021300202000000000

i dont know what i want to do but ill do it with this build unless someone can tell me why not. im really just looking for advice. NO ONE in my guild can tell me anything other than "pom and pyro are good".

so yeah, one month playing and ive got a 42 fire mage, 33 pally, 14 hunter, 8 warlock and a lvl 1 priest i dont remember making......

the build isn't bad, but you are missing a few things.

1) You didn't say what you want to use it for

2) Get rid of frost warding, useless points.

3) You picked some good talents in both trees, but failed to pick talents that sometimes compliment them (picked permafrost as a fire mage, along with other +critical stuff for frost spells when you are heavily fire).

4) Ignored important talents in the fire tree like molten fury + incinerate + pyromaniac.

Hope that helps
#166 Jan 14 2008 at 12:47 AM Rating: Decent
1) i dont KNOW what i wanna use it for :P

2) figured as much. just looked interesting at the time

3) well i was trying to go for a deep fire with an icy centre......im tired

4) i didnt ignore just thought i could give frost a better shove in the **** type thing.

thank you that does help. after much thought, i wont go with that build. ill do the 10/48/3 spec. i dont know if i will raid or what, but i DO know i like killing things. and oddly enough, considering we wear cloth, mages kick *** in pvp. im not one to go looking for a fight but i do defend myself. 9 times out of 10, my fire mage comes out on top.

sprekinzee ftw

Apparently the good Baron has been experiencing a VERY long weekend. Temporal shift of some kind?

im an undead mage and love it. my friend who got me into the game is a troll.

i picked undead for the coolness but the racial trait "Will of the Forsaken: Activated ability that makes the Undead immune to fear, charm and sleep effects temporarily" is what ppl say is good about this race.

if i didnt pick undead it would of been troll cause they be second in coolness. the trait "Berserking: Activated ability that increases attack and casting speed; increased effect when badly injured" and "Regeneration: Increase health regen bonus" would be another awesome mage.

thats ma two cents.

Alright, I need to plan out my build for my fire spec mage when I hit 70 and I wanted to get some feedback on what I have already and how to fill out the rest of the tree.

Clicky

My guild is big on raiding, especially in Kara. So I want to be prepared when it's time. I've been toying with the idea of putting the extra talent points at 70 into frost.

Also, could anyone point me in the direction of a good guide on gear?
#171 Jan 28 2008 at 11:26 AM Rating: Decent
So I was wondering what Build would be the most useful in the EndGame Raids/Quests and stuff

Thanks for the guide I just made a mage recently and this helped me a alot. So far I am lv16 spec

5/Improved Fireball

2/Impact

Any tips on what to do next?

I'd recommend sticking with frost talents while leveling up/questing/instancing until 70. Survivability is a must.

I have been going all frost and it has been really rewarding for levling up, my fire mage had a much harder time even with the higher dmg.....Plus the frost specs
are just more fun lol.

I have been Fire since creation of my Mage and I love every bit of it. I switched to Frost to work my way through some of the Fire Resistant mobs in Searing Gorge faster...but after that I'm right back to Fire. In my opinion a properly played Mage should have just as much success with Fire as with Frost, and survivability should not be an issue. I know that Frost has many toys to play with that enhance survivability...I just never had a problem surviving without them so it's never been an issue.

Frost is just so boring..it's like watching a horrible movie in slow motion. You know it will end eventually but it takes soooo long to get the the end credits. I'd rather hit the >>FF>> button and two shot them with a couple Fireballs.

the difference, in my opinion, is that as frost in order to kill faster you are depending on frostbite procs + shatter combos, where with fire you tend to crit more often (about 10%) and do a bit more damage.
