There is a thread on this very forum called "Talents to Avoid: TBC Edition", it is the updated version of this thread, as the name suggests. This thread has somehow got necro-posted and resurrected from about ten pages back by a lock who by his own admission is using Crescent Staff at the moment, it was written as LONG time ago.
Please dont say "Omg this is out of date" and then correct it, I have already done that in the new thread. The new one is all about TBC and is revised for the new 41pt trees, so if you wouldnt mind please take all discussions about talents to the new thread and let this one die :)

About Curse of Weakness. I'm a Destruction WL and I can very easily pull the aggro off my demon. Curse of Weakness helps me survive that. I'm considering dropping some points in Affliction so I can do Improved Curse of Weakness, but altogether I would have to spend 7 points to get it. I guess it wouldn't hurt to spend 5 pts on Improved Corruption so I can cast it a little faster, since my initial attack is ususally to send in the demon and then lay on the DoTs.
Also, this isn't a talent, but I have a question about a trainable spell, Hellfire? My question is, why in God's name would you do that? I can get killed easily enough just by drawing aggro after I've used Health Funnel a few times. So go and inflict more damage on myself? No thanks.

Well, let's see. If you take Fel Domination and Master Summoner, you can summon a pet in .5 seconds, which is pretty much instant.
Also, if you look at Health Funnel, where a casting cost normally is, it says "99 health, plus 65 health per sec." The spell discription is "Gives 188 health to the caster's pet every second..." The 99 health is the initial cost, which is reduced by 20% (WOW! Thanks guys! 20 HP!). The 188 health is then increased by 20% to 225-226 HP/sec. Not phenominal, but it adds up.

The Abyss shard does not change casting time - only lets you summon 1 vw/ half hour cd without any mana cost or needing to use a shard.

I think the problem is that the FAQ links to this thread, instead of the updated version. It confused me for some time when I first started my warlock, until I noticed the dates. I know that there's an updated version somewhere here, but I don't have the time to dig it up. But an edit of the FAQ and possibly the first post here is way due, IMO.

YES! I've perfected it! I've finally got it. I've taken control and this thread is no about... favorite foods.

But that's the glory, Ian. We've made it relevant simply by making it about something relevant. Who cares about talent builds Pre-BC? Not a damn person. Who cares about food? Everyone! See?! IT'S GENIUS!
(Also, is " an acceptable substitute for '? Like... as caps? I got 3 hours of sleep last night, so maybe this is a dumb question, but seriously, I want to make double quotes the "capital" version of the apostrophe. I think this can work.)

It's really simple to to start drain soul as shadowbolt moves towards the mob if your fighting it at any kind of range. Also I do NOT use my highest rank drain soul for mana regen, instead i set rank 1 drain soul to my action bar, it casts for 55 mana and still procs the effect every fight when i solo anything, for a return of about 900-1000 mana depending on buffs.
