Rogue Poison FAQFollow

i didnt see this anyewre in this thread so i would also like to add:
your chances on aplying poisons reflect your skill lvl in poisons. so if you lvl 20 and only made 5 poisons to try it out , then your chance to aply poisons are very low. you should always levle up your poisons every time you lvl up to keep the balance of apication.

Silas, are you taking the michael? It says on the poison what the chance of application is, it really doesn't have much to do with the skill.
It doesn't matter if you feel you are 'wasting' your poison making, btw. I personally tend to make batches of about 20 of each poison, occasionally topping up when I need to. This always keeps my skill at the highest level.

Just as a bit of advice.

I tend to make tons of poisons despite my level. I go through so much and change poisons so frequently in pve that i dont think i could live without them. They are there to be used, i dont see the point in skimping out. I normally keep a stack of 20 instants for pve, maybe 20 crippling, 10 deadly for group situations (especially on elites) and a couple of mind numbings.

also incase you havn't noticed the new pickpocketing in 1.12 allows you to pick up poison regeants & such from mobs so those of us who arent herbalists can still make use of blind and thistle teas.

poisons are there to be used. Sure it might be expensive & it might feel like you are wasting skill points by making 30 potions when you skill is maxed out, but if youve ever had a situation where your ambush crits, your main & offhand crit & both your poisons proc at the same time you will be grinning with joy when your mob is at less than half health in one hit. The new poison talents also increase damage/chance to hit and i think duration... its an essential part of roguery. Try going an extended period of time with them & then try living without them. everytime you die you will think "if one of my poisons had kicked in i wouldnt be corpse running right now" and that will make up your mind next time you think its a waste of money.

Edit - dont know if this has been mentioned, but you can apply poisons whilst stealthed. so if you ever find yourself with a tempting pvp target you can change poisons to suit the situation without letting them know you are there. Double crippling is a must for hunters, you can run them through easily if they cant run away with wing clip - make sure you open with cheapshot (or sap, kill pet restealth, cheapshot) so you get 4 seconds where your poisons have a chance to proc.

Kind of bad because it encourages rogues to be lazy about doing the poison quest, but you only have to do the quest to make poisons, even rogues without the ability to make them can use poisons, as long as they have someone to make them for their lazy butts.

When you first get the poison skill, it's best to make a stack or 2 of instant poison 1 and max out the rest of your skill on crippling poison. Keep them in the bank and use them as you need, because it will be 30 levels before you get an upgrade on them.

I usially just do a pickpocket run of zf for regents for poisons. (if I'm feeling cheap) the lockboxes give me from 3-15 blind powder every 30 min and anywhere from half a stack to 4 stacks of mixed regents. at 48 it was worth the time but at 59 I'm better off farming elete mobs for money and buying the regents I need. It is worth the time for you if you need to level up your lockpick though.

I've gotta say I'm a little suprised that people still read this FAQ and/or respond do it, since I wrote it... oh, god, about a year and a half ago and I've long since stopped playing my Rogue. Glad it still helps people.

Added in one other question I saw asked in the thread to the main post. Post-TBC I'll probably poke around and find out the new poison effects and add them into the body of the FAQ, but as my Rogue is no longer active (completely different server than the one I play on now) I'll probably have to crib from someone else if there's any kind of new funky poison quests.

For those just starting our new Rogue, this is still an extremely helpful post.

After picking the lock and grabbing the book, I think I agroed every guard in that tower. As I ran out the entrance I hit the run-faster button and some level 22 dwarf warrior was walking up. He just stood there and watched a dozen guards chase me out into the field.

Definately one of those things that only happens in a MMOG!

Are poisons always orange on the create sheet? I mean like smelt copper goes yellow after only a few and it's gray before you get vey high, but my poisons are like 120 right now, and my first poison is still orange.

Updated this FAQ for TBC. If I've missed anything let me know and I'll correct it - my Rogue has long since stopped being played, but the changes were fairly minor. Updated the description for Wound Poison and added in the new ranks, as well as mentioned Mutilate's reliance on the target being poisoned.

Has anyone heard of a rogue poison that can destroy corpses so they cant be ressurected? I heard this from my friend at school who has been playing WoW for two years. He didn't remember the nme when I was talking to him. He says to make it, it requires a potion from an alchemist and 3 rogue poisons. anyone know what it is? He said it was called acid or something.

Try leveling up. It's one of those skills where you get +5 to the skill cap per level. Just like your Defence and One Handed Swords skills.

..geh. Try reading the thread before you ask.

I"m currently Lvl65 in the Outlands (no duh to me).

I'd like to add that if you use pickpocket to a decent degree, you get lock-boxes quite a bit. This gives you not only Lvl ups to your lockpicking, it also gives various poison reagents, INCLUDING quite a bit of blind powder. I used to never use blind since it was so 'expensive', but now I can actually use it without crying about my wallet (as for PvP).

Cheers! No more overpricing by the herbalists!

totally agree with yhsheepy

Use pickpocket as much as you can. I'm only lvl 31 currently and just really started using pickpocket to my advantage. I did a quest in Desolace last night and pp every mob before I killed him. I ended up making about 1g and picked up 20 regants for poisons I haven't learned the skill for. Will be putting those in the bank for when I can. Also increasing lockpicking with every box opened.

Yeah. I have two or three stacks of blind powder banked, from pickpocketing lockboxes. I've also got a fair few poison reagents.. some as high as level 50. <3 It'll save me the money later, heh.

Thanks for ez mode, bliz.

nope, there isnt.

When doing BGs I usually do cripling on mainhand and mind numming on the offhand. That extra little chance really helps against the casters (because there are so many) most especially on paladins because it gives them less cures when bubbled and such.

When lvling I usually use crip/instant, havent used deadly in a while but when I was combat specd I often did deadly/deadly, this was pre-TBC though.

I did this quest, mid lvl 20ish.. pretty easy,
Pick pocket the undead dude with spiked hair for the key, stealth inside to the top lvl sap the elite dude. pick the chest, get the journal.. jump down the stairs , and sprint out of the building.

I didnt see anyone mention the thistle tea recipe here, although it isn't a poison it comes in extremely handy and its a reward from the same quest chain.

Will equipment enhancements increase poison damage. I have been experimenting with a hat and cloak with a total of about +30 nature spell damage, will this increase the damge d0ne by nature damage poisons, it seems to work but i am not sure?

Little known fact: After picking the lock and getting to book. 1) The chest disappears and respawns every 5 or 10 seconds. Max out your lockpicking while you are there. Dont worry about the touch of Zand, you can fix that in another quest or you can be like me and have to come back and get touched again.
That can also be fixed, but why put yourself through that a second time. :>)

2) Macro:
/cast Pick Pocket
/stopcasting
/cast Cheap Shot

All the blinding powder you will ever need!

Pick-pocketing provides most of the ingredients for poisons. The rest plus the vials can be purchased at any 'Shady Dealer'. However 'flash powder' for vanish is very rarely found via pick-pocketing (at least up to level 48 where my rogue currently sits). So I use Allakhazam here to find the dealers that sell it and keep an extra stack in the bank.

I'm having no trouble keeping my lock-picking and poison-making skill levels at their maximum just by pick-pocketing mobs, opening their junkboxes and keeping myself stocked with poisons. Opening other people's lockboxes is pocket change.
