Hey i would like to know what a good pve build would look like...
I used to play Eq, so the build would probally be for a good group/raid character :)

most mages start off putting points into the fire talent tree, then at around level 30-40, respeccing to frost. it's said that in PvP servers, all mages need 18 points in arcane. this probably isnt true inPvE servers, but i suggest any points you don't end up putting into the frost tree putting into arcane.
there are plenty of guides on the net showing you talent "builds" pre-determined talent point distributions that other players have found usefull, but equally you could do something completley diffrent, like spread your points accross all three trees or become a fire/frost mage :D

For PvE servers 16 points in arcane is the LEAST you can do(counterspell isnt too needed on mobs). Without IAE your going to be dead wieght for one of your main abilities, aoe.
Frost is the way to go for leveling period.....Shatter is amazing for the 50 percent crit chance on frozen targets so with a frost nova or frostbite proc u can crit very often saving you a lot of mana and killing things very fast....Sure fire is more dmg in general, but frost is very powerful in that you have tons of control, kiting, crits, and survivability.....Frost gives you a better chance to recover from unwanted pulls or pvp....A straight frost build is amazing such as a 2/0/59 getting everything except frost warding and frozen core or 10/0/59 for clearcasting....For raids a deep fire build is obviously going to have more dmg, but for anything else frost is great....Plus at lvl 50 you get elemental which just owns.

There are admins who feel the same way about necroposts I do. I'd be willing to bet that if I asked nicely enough, we could get the necroposter muted for a couple days.
