Am I the only one that breaks computer mouse buttons? Even when avoiding clicking games, I can't seem to get more than 6-8 months out of a mouse. I'm afraid to buy anything pricey, so I stick with Logitech/Microsoft wireless mice. Eventually the left click decides to wear out and begins double clicking each press. I can get another month out of it if I fiddle with it, but it's like the spring mechanism wears out and stops releasing smoothly, causing a second click on the release.
I'm wondering if it's just inevitable for all mice, if I'm using ****** mice, or if I am just fingering them too hard.

Might be you, not sure, I bought the first Razer naga in 09 when it first came out, just finally replaced it this year. Ended up getting the same thing. I use to use the "cheaper" Microsoft/Logitech mice but was replacing them every year or sooner, so maybe it isn't you....

There's a little copper spring switch under the button that can get deformed over time. When I had a Revolution MX, I had to open it and use a pencil tip to reshape the switch about once every six months for the last two years of its life (I liked that mouse). Then the right switch started going bad and I gave it a proper retirement. Plus each repair works for a shorter period of time as you stress the metal from all the bending.
I had a Razer DeathAdder 2013 but that crapped out on me inside of about a year. Pretty disappointing.
Now I'm using a relatively cheap Monoprice job which actually fits my hand well and is a pretty nice mouse. It was on sale for $22 when I bought it but if I had to replace it tomorrow (for non-failure reasons) I'd probably drop the $38 on it.

Ya, I've tried repairing the switch before. The mice I have are cheapos though and opening them usually breaks something, making it not last very long once I do it.

You know what killed my last mouse? Diablo 3 and beer. Deadly combo that.
I'm going to say that it must just be you...
I've been working with computers for a very long time now (closing in on 20 years) and some relativley heavy mouse clicky programs (autocad/inventor) and can only think of breaking 1 or 2 mice. Even those I think it was some other issue and not a left click button. And again at home with the same programs plus gaming (diablo/wow/HS, etc) I can't recall ever breaking a mouse. For what it's worth at home I have one of those massive steel series cataclysm edition gaming mouse that my wife bought me a couple years ago, and at work just the regular old microsft type in conjuction with a 3dconnection space navigator.
But the left click button on all of them is quite polished!

Way back in the days of LAN parties I lost a mouse or two due to the belief that if you pressed the button harder you could get DoomGuy to shoot harder too.

I use a Logitech G700 I bought after having to do what Joph did to my G9x. I like it because it fits my hand nicely and is weighty (Because rechargeable battery).
I do have 2 replacements lined up from sales a Razer Imperator Mouse Battlefield 3 edition that I got on clearance sale for like 14.99 and one I tried out for ***** and giggles a UtechSmart Venus from Newegg for like 24.99 on sale. The Utech is a no name brand MMO million button mouses. I used it for a few weeks I stopped using it because A) it felt to light to me even with all the weights in B) it was to wide for my hand. Both of which issues are personal. I think im atypical because the biggest complaint about the Logitech I use is, It is too heavy for many people.
If the Logitech Im using goes down Ill probably use the Utech over the Razer.

I just last year had to replace the same mouse I'd been using for almost fifteen years. The Logitech Trackman Marble Mouse is not only quick, precise, and very easy on the wrist, but it's very well built. Some people are hesitant to switch over to a ball mouse, but once you get used to it, you can't go back to regular one.

Confirmed. Using an old Microsoft TrackBall Optical mouse at home, and the Logitech M570 at work (only because Microsoft stopped selling their's).
