Here's a little side by side of the PS4 vs the Xbox 720. PS4 will be more powerful.
Still no firm release date. Christmastime this year still sounds like best guess. Anyone caught wind of prices?
Whether it's more powerful or not has a good chance of being irrelevant. The PS3 was purportedly more powerful than the 360, but consistently looked worse due to cross-platform bottlenecking and ease-of-development issues. I'm more curious about what it's like to develop for, and Sony seemed to be making a lot of noise about the PS4 being more open and simple to make games on. That'd be a big win, if it's the case.
No firm release date, no price announcements yet. The former might not come until TGS, the latter seems like a good bet for E3.

Wait, I'm suppose to get excited for a concole that is only on par with my current PC? That doesn't come out for another 6-9 months and will be even farther behind PC's at that point? No thanks
I think that's a myopic way of looking at it, though it's a valid enough mindset if you're indeed only concerned about graphical fidelity. Better to look at the exclusive software - are there games worth playing on it? Then there's ease of use: consoles have always been great for the ability to pop a disc in and play it, no questions asked. Sony's making a lot of overtures towards out-of-the-box functionality, like risk free demos and the ability to play a game while downloading it, too.
I found the announcement interesting, and I'm cautiously optimistic for the system, even if I probably won't be buying one this year. The 1st party stuff shown didn't do it for me (Killzone in particularly disappointed me greatly), and the 3rd party stuff is mostly too nebulous to invest in right now. Watch Dogs looked solid, but didn't blow my mind.
Still, the system's feature list looks impressive, and the company strategy seems legit. That's reassuring for an early reveal.
