I wouldn't really call it a learning curve. More like a sucker punch.
Fight a Baatender, take 0-5 damage in the fight.
Fight another one, take another 0-5 damage in the fight. Heal up with a health orb after battle.
Ok, seems pretty easy so far. Makes sense, first few battles, level 0-1 enemies.
Fight a Major Byrde, it casts a wind spell at the very beginning of battle and hits you for 17 damage.
Ok, those hurt, gotta make sure I'm ready for those creatures.
Later:
Fight a Teeny Bopper, it's about as strong as a Baatender.
Fight another one, it's just two Teeny Boppers, not bad.
Find another Teeny Bopper and it has a little round guy in it's group that casts the same wind spell as the Major Byrde.
Dead.
I played through the Demo, which had two little bits. And the first one was this first quest in the Deep Dark Woods. So I thought I knew what to expect. But I'm pretty sure I never had any of the enemies cast a wind spell on me that hit that hard.
I'm just saying that it seems that enemy magic is a bit overpowered for these early enemies. I tried once to dodge the magic attack but that ended up being a pointless endeavor. And if they are going to cast it that fight it almost always seems to be at the beginning of the battle before you even select your first command. (For me they seemed to cast it about 75% of the time, the other 25% they just ran up to you and started pecking).
