This doesn't change my opinion of the stock FO3 ending. It was really poorly done.
That's one of several reasons why I think New Vegas is a better all around fallout than FO3. When I played it shortly after it came out, the ending really pissed me off.
Along with the continuing after the ending, the DLC also add several perks, additional levels, and they also have your companions scaling with you so they don't become worthless after level 15. If you already own the DLC (I'm presuming you bought the GOTY edition on sale sometime) I'm curious as to why you would play without it. It doesn't remove any content, and just adds some useful things.
