Everyone seems to really love Citadel, and it was definitely written with fans of the series in mind.
I haven't played anything but From Ashes. Which wasn't bad, but it definitely could have been better for the cash. I never used Javik as a squad member either. That said, he'd probably be a great companion for a biotic Shepard on higher difficulties.
The thing about the DLC, though, is that he only has that one main mission, and assorted other possible conversations/events (like talking with <insert character> around the Normandy). If you don't take him on missions, you don't really get to know him all that well.
Which is true of all the squad members, to be fair.
Unlike any of the other DLC though, From Ashes gives you a character you can use in all missions & any of the DLC that allows you to bring squadmates. Sure, you gotta "get to know him" by taking him on missions & talking to him in his room (like the rest), but additional dialogue is available in most of the DLC missions & on the Asari homeworld. He's also way, way more interesting than Kaidan or Vega.
As far as DLCs go, From Ashes gives you the most bang for your buck. If you're really into Aria & want to see a female Turian, Omega's pretty good. Leviathan is probably the hardest of the DLCs & it gives you some background on the creators of the Reapers (Whom ended up being their first harvest). Interesting lore-wise, but no new enemies, temporary squadmates, & lots of reapers to kill.
Citadel is mostly fan service. Hilarious fan-service, but it gives you a chance to get together with everyone of your surviving squadmates (And Mordin sorta makes a cameo, beyond the grave. Didn't notice anything from Thane though). The mission itself was probably the easiest of all the DLCs as I think I was done the fighting in under 2 hours & spent another hour or so partying with the crew.
