So I get into work and find my email from Sony to fix my password. I click on the link, and to my delight it shows the page is Under Maintenance.

People in FFXI are talking about how it's down and it's been hacked again.

I don't have any more info than that at the moment but I'm sure we'll hear about it if it's true.

destructoid has the story(via eurogamer, via nylevia).

link afraid: sony's password re-set tool only asks for email and DOB, 2 EXTREMELY easy to attain pieces of information. they are NOT confirming that any information has been attained, only that it would have been amazingly simple for someone to do so.

Quote:
PSN sign-in is unavailable for PlayStation.com and the PlayStation forums. Password reset emails now contain a link to a site that cannot be viewed, which will certainly confuse customers.

"Unfortunately this also means that those who are still trying to change their password via Playstation.com or Qriocity.com will be unable to do so for the time being," said Sony. "This is due to essential maintenance and at present it is unclear how long this will take. In the meantime you will still be able to sign into PSN via your PlayStation 3 and PSP devices to connect to game services and view Trophy/Friends information."

That's because it's a FFXI related topic. Daft as it is.

And I know, and this is why I didn't state it as fact.

That just reminded me of a person on my server in XI that would always use the same emote on event moogles, nonstop, at every event, without fail.

/em rips the <t>'s spine out and beats the <t> with it.

I was like O_O

Actually the email address and DOB was part of the data obtained in the original hack.

According to a now erased tweet from a PSN UK Mod, the store is scheduled to be back up on the 20th.

Sony should really give everybody with a PSN account a free $10 credit for the digital download store. Wouldn't really cost them anything. I have had two accounts with them. My first one I deleted when I sold my first PS3. The one I have now don't have my CC info on it so I guess im ok.

They're giving us 4 free games and a free month of Playstation Plus. See Turin's post above.

As well as a free weekend of "on them" movie rentals.

Probably going to be all old movies nothing new. As for the recoup I would prefer the credit if they offered it as Infamous I already have a plat so played that to death. LBP I own and Stardust, Dead nation and Wipeout kinda feel like cheap Downloadable games.

As for Psp mines CFW so nothings really gonna float that boat. 10-20 dollar credit + PSN Plus would be perfect for them losing my account with my old credit card. Least we would get to pick a game that we want.

HyperDimension Neptunia would be my choice been wanting to play that.

I think there are two problems with that.

1. Most customers are going to feel like they got a much better deal this way than if they just got $10. Free games, even if they weren't ones you were dying for, feel like a much bigger thing to get (and they are, technically).

2. That $10 is mostly useless for people who are broke. Or for those that prefer to buy their games with a disc, when possible (I'd much rather not clutter my hard drive with games that cost the same in digital form). Nice, but it'll end up as a delayed reward for people--Sony is trying to up peoples' spirits right now. Giving them something they won't make use of for months won't do that.

NO FAIR!

Europe is getting Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty instead of Super Stardust HD.

I adored both Tools of Destruction and Crack in Time, but never got around to playing the middle title.

SO much better!

1. Google make European PSN account
2. Download PSN games
3. ?????
4. Profit

I have a European Account, a Japanese account, and an US account. They're kinda like Voltron the more you get together the better they get.

I'm sure these will be free to all customers for 30 days unless they built a safety catch in somehow. If nothing else after I get the game Ill pm you my European account info to download it to your PS3 to play, Its the only thing on the account or will be since nothings really came out there that isn't already here.

Better yet I'll one up ya, heres the way to make a PSN account for European PSN

Not yet, since the JP PSN Store won't be up for awhile. The Japanese Government won't allow them to relaunch until they get a detailed documentation of the breach, the exact data that was stolen, the steps to recover the data, and the steps to make the system more secure.

PSN Store launch for today has been canceled, no official notice of when it will be up. PSN Maintenance scheduled from 8:00 AM PST to 5:00 PM PST today.

US Playstation Blog wrote:
PlayStation Network is scheduled to undergo maintenance today, from about 8am until approximately 5pm Pacific time. During this time, registration and Account Management will be inaccessible, including the password reset process. While some users may experience difficulty signing in to PSN, the majority of consumers will be able to play online as well as sign in to external sites that require PSN authentication (like this one).

For those asking about the PlayStation Store, we’re still targeting restoration of all services by the end of this month. Contrary to reports, the Store will not be publishing today.

Stay tuned to the PlayStation Twitter feed for updates and a notice when maintenance has concluded.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
