It's being claimed it's finally going to be released in May. Here's a trailer. Personally, I'll believe it when it's actually sitting on a store shelf.

Love the very last line in that trailer. "How about the game, was it any good?" "Yeah, but after 12 f***ing years, it should be!"

I must be the only gamer who doesn't give a **** about this game. Never played the original, didn't really appeal to me. Still it will be nice to get this out of the news, the "Duke Nukem Finally released?" stories get a little old every 6 months Smiley: smile

While part of me smiles due to the awesome immature fun I had with the original, the other part of me is sad. Not because this game reminds me of how old I am getting but the fact that crap like this comes out and people fawn over it like it is the best thing since slice bread. People send out mix signals when they complain to the gaming industry to make awesome games yet shell out money as soon as games like this are released. Not only that but games like this do not help the gaming industry as a whole. What do you think will happen when opponents to gaming get their claws into this?

/soapbox

This should sum up my feelings rather well.

That's a hard claim to make when not that much is known about it yet. It's not as though it's a verified piece of crap or anything. It's just a game that you disliked the trailer for.

Heres a real question, who gives a flying ****? since when has what non gamers do mattered to gamers and the games they play?

As for the rest of your post, if you dont likie it, dont buy it, belive it or not the existance of games you arnt interested in isnt harming anything.

You know how when you were young and you thought pro wrestling was really cool? Also that most TV shows involving space ships or super heroes were really well produced?

Yeah I think good old Duke is about like that. I've outgrown him but maybe a new generation of unjaded teens can find joy in his crass humor the way I did before the weight of the world crushed my spirit. ;)

I loved the original Duke Nukem 3D. Love it so much I actually made several levels based on my high school (obviously I was in high school then) which ended up stiring some crap up locally etc.

Wonder if the PC version will have a editor and if so it it will be useable without taking a college class on it. Either way I will prob pick it up although like another poster said I don't care nearly as much as I did a decade ago.

Nothing from any screen shot or the trailer stood out. Just another generic fps with the whole Duke style of childish jokes and ample T&A. Enjoyable back when it was new and fresh. Now it is a sad attempt at capturing the attention of "specials" that feel the need to defend the game as though this is the only fps title to come out this year and that we should be thankful that it even is coming out.

With all due respect, are you new to the gaming scene? There are quite a few people in high places that feel as though gaming is not on the same platform as movies and books. They still view games as a child's toy. There are quite a few of us who are trying to better the media as a whole and titles like this do not help. So tell me Master, which side of the fence are you on? Do you want to improve the media and eventually be able to experience the gaming version of Citizen Kane or would you rather be thrown any old bone with the mindset that gaming will only last a little longer until something new comes out?

Are people still making this same tired argument? Video games have reached this point you speak of already. The industry self-regulates and there are laws on the books to card individuals not appearing to be in the appropriate age group before they can purchase a title. Besides the occasional far left or right politician making a fuss every time some tragedy occurs, nothing major happens. as master said, who gives a sh*t what other people; specifically non-gamers; think. grow up.

Honestly? Titles like this *do* help. They help by telling the uppity, we-want-to-define-artistic, politically correct loving crowd to shove it. At the end of the day, there's great value in saying that a game is legitimate if it has an audience that likes it regardless of whether some panel of experts on what games should do or contain approve. I also personally believe that there is no end to the amount of restrictions the "we're protecting people from themselves" crowd will place if you let them. Giving in to their demands by avoiding controversial titles isn't going to make them back off. It'll make them push harder for ever increasing restrictions.

I don't want to play the video game equivalent of Citizen Kane though. And I certainly don't want the entire list of game choices to consist of those trying to be. If someone wants to make such games, and they can sell them, then all the more power to them. But the same can be said for any other type of game as well.

I don't agree with the premise that the media is "improved" by watering it down.

Oh noes! some people that dont play games dont appreciate them! again, who gives a flying **** what people who dont play games think about games? Its like a toy company being worried that adults wont like there toys, its just stupid.

AS for your second point, that has what to do with what? seeing as bad movies were constantly released before and after citizen kane, i fail to see how they prevented it from coming out, or how games you dont like will prevent good games form coming out.

Have fun playing Citizen Kane over and over again though.

It might be nice to play a Citizen Kane of video games (and we are getting closer to it every day), but there is no reason that games like Duke Nukem cant exist alongside them, one isn't stopping the other.

Sometimes I want to watch Citizen Kane, other times I just want to watch Die Hard and Con Air.
