Are you playing DCUO?Follow

I just bought it. It is still downloading the 12.1GB initial patch update so I have no impressions yet. That has not stopped me from starting the wiki machine rolling. :)

I'm playing on the PS3. It's pretty fun, and seems to have solid support, so far.

Just received my copy today... can't wait to get home and install it. I have a few friends that are playing already and they really enjoy it so far.

I hated it at first, but now I'm starting to enjoy it. It's a much simpler game than most MMOs, but I'm enjoying the story. Each quest line ends with a little motion comic which ties up the storyline or leads to the next one. The UI is God awful though.

I liked Champions Online for some variety for a couple months. Spent way to much time costume designing and trying new builds but I did manage one character to near cap.

Very tempted to try DCUO but I'm going to wait a bit until my next round of WoW burnout kicks in harder. :)

I need a new MMO. For a change of pace I thought I'd go the superhero route rather than elves and dwarfs (Rift looks too familiar). So, my choices are CoH/CoV and DCUO.

Has anyone played both games and able to give a comparison?

How's the pvp in DCUO?

I feel ya. I think the reason why WoW and LoTRO didn't stick with me can be summed up with the phrase "A decade of Everquest".

Champions Online is going Free to Play on the 25th. You're limited to select archetypes and it's the usual "Hey, we have a cash store" type thing (CO was big on the cash store even prior to F2P) but it's no risk to try it out. I personally hated the art style with a passion and didn't care for the tone of the game but I can't really rip on the game play.

City of Heroes and DCUO are like comparing apples and rolling pins. DCUO is more like an arcade style game and made for game controller play. The UI is clunky and feels like junk compared to most MMOs. The chat interface is a joke. But it's much more action based than your average MMORPG. There's a whole lotta mouse/controller button clicking that goes into combat. I didn't care for it but that's mainly because I wanted an MMORPG not an MMO-Arcade Game and not really a failing with DCUO. Character customization is a pale shadow of that in COH or CO. Graphics themselves looked nice though. I'll let other people talk up its praises or criticisms though since it just wasn't my thing and that alone doesn't make it a bad game.

City of Heroes has the advantage of seven years worth of content although some of the older content is less of a selling point (kind of like saying "EQ has a quest where you can hand in orc belts!"). The new stuff is pretty good though and the newbie experience has been revamped by starting players in a new region with updated graphics, missions, etc. It's the most traditional MMORPG of the three (not that CO is far off) in so far as gameplay and mechanics. It's more of a "the adventure is the journey" theme so there hasn't been much of an "end game" although the last couple additions have been changing that. I'm happy to answer any questions but I'm won't spend a lot of time now talking it up. There's a free trial if you want (although the trial restrictions suck, blame the RMT'ers). I've learned that MMORPG enjoyment is so subjective that it's hard to ever just say "This is a great game, you should play it" since my reasons might be far different from yours.

I'd like to add that if you want 'phat lewtz' pick DCUO over CoH.

Loots good if it's good for something - or if it looks cool.

From what i remember, the loot in CoH that does stuff (enhancements) doesnt alter your appearance at all but does provide stat/ability bonuses, and the costume pieces you can find are only aesthetic. Whereas in DCUO the loot system is more traditional.

In my limited experience, DCUO treats loot like WoW in spandex. "You just got a +5 Cape of Agility!" "You got some +2 Boots of Accuracy!". You can choose whether to display it as part of your costume or leave it "invisible".

CoH goes a different way and you enhance your powers directly. Like adding range and damage enhancements to your fire blast. There's some unlockable costume bits but costumes aren't gear, just cosmetics. The enhancements themselves are either bought or loot drops though so there is a loot system (for good or ill) but it's handled differently.

It's not as bad as he makes it sound ... If you're playing on PS3!

It's pretty obvious that the game was designed for console. It could use a lot of improvement but the game is a lot better with a controller.

I played CO with a 360 controller on my PC. Was nice to give my old left hand a break from the normal wasd 12345 spamming. So controller driven menu's don't really bother me to much.

The gameplay is more fun than FFXIV, but the UI is almost as bad.

I've solo'd to 12 thus far.

I have a Lv 30 con/DD I'm really loving the game atm. I also just started a healer which is 15 atm. The game is very fun to play and even more fun as a group. Character cust is very flexible if you know what your doing, you can create the look of any DC or Marvel super hero. The UI stinks but if you have a game controller its very easy to over look. The chat system now is strait garbage and need to be fixed asap also the league(LS) need great improvement. If your into the DC/Marvel thing you'll love this game despite the few flaws it has.

I've been playing since it first released. I haven't hit 30 yet because I keep making new characters to try out different things with them. I like how it doesn't force me into a grind and I can log off any time I want without feeling the itch for just "one more quest."

I haven't played it, but talked to some people who know something about the game and heard a few things. Is it true that console players and computer players are on different server pools? I'd heard that, and while I suppose it's good in some ways, it would suck if you and your friend couldn't play together because you had two different systems. It also makes one wonder why they didn't provide a better UI for the computer players.

It was also very obviously primarily aimed at console players, with computer gamers added in almost as a second thought. You get a little bit of that in CO (some controls don't work all the time using the mouse for example), and none of it in COH (which was designed entirely for computer gamers.

Not sure how big a deal all that is, but I've already got two superhero related online games, so I'm not going to buy a third. Also was never that hot for DC. I got CoH because it was the first and picked up CO because I played the P&P game long ago. There's no interest at all for me to play DCUO though.

Obviously, others may love it. As Joph said, it's pretty subjective.

That's pretty much the one thing keeping me away. Just how ingrained are the actual DC Characters in the storylines and quests? I could probably stomach it if I wasn't running into Superman and Wonder Woman every ten minutes.

Of course, if Marvel ever got off their *** and made their own MMO, I'd be all over that. Maybe even Image.

It's one of their "selling points" that you're constantly interacting with DC signature characters. In fact, I've heard a deal of praise from DC fans at how they keep interacting with even minor characters and feel like they're really in the DC world. I was never into DC that much so the more minor characters I interacted with in the beta probably went right over my head.

I'm only level 15 but so far most of the quest are given by either cops or minor character with small interaction with the most iconic hero like Superman or Batman. You don't actually talk to Superman to get your quest. He's there somewhere but you're not working directly for him. I don't know if that's still the case end-game though.

While it was highly delusional on my part to even entertain the idea it would be otherwise, I still feel pretty upset over it. In the sense that its a silly reason not to play a game.

Really, I just can't stand Superman or his power set in general.
