After playing a bit more I've reached level 11 and I'm just not feeling the urge to play anymore. The basic point, click, stuff happens model has been around since the original Diablo, it's getting old. I'd really like to see a better control scheme.
Quests for the most part are the same old boring, go kill/find/loot X number of whatevers. A couple of them had me fighting beefed up named versions of some of the local mobs, which were the most fun. Though, those mobs spawn randomly (thankfully quickly) within certain areas, so it tends to create competition.
As to gear, I don't feel any real sense of accomplishment in getting new stuff, since it very quickly gets replaced. I found a significantly better shield than the one I was using on some flaming wolf thing, and not fifteen minutes later got an even better one from an easy quest. This may change at end game, but at least during the low levels, gear is pretty much a constant flow of upgrades.
You can't buy anything worthwhile from NPCs unless you grind out rep, which is not my idea of a good time, so I had something like 90 gold and nothing to spend it on. I thought about picking up a mount, but never did manage to find the place to do so. I saw a bunch of people riding around on turtles, which to me seemed a bit odd.
As far as I can tell the only thing this game has going for it are the Rifts, which are basically (to use a FFXI comparison) just Campaign battles that can happen anywhere instead of just in certain spots. They are amusing enough, especially if you ignore them long enough for the enemies to take over a couple spots, then it turns into a massive clustf*ck of a fight. Usually though people show up and annihilate the mobs before that can happen.
