Do any of the posters here actually have access to Tera or is this all mainly speculation? I am quite looking forward to Tera because I believe the MMO industry is in dire need of reinvention and think Tera could pave the way. However, as my name suggests I am an old FFXI veteran and know that the Eastern view of fun is often "grind". So I guess the question is; does anyone actually know if the game is fun?

Also, I figured this place could do with someone else posting. Smiley: tongue

Yea I can think a of a few people that have tested it.
And a couple in my guild have. They seem to like it.
even though I've gotten some of the dirty bits on the game.
All I can do is speculate until I actually play the game myself.
Everyone has their own views of any said game. It's really up to
you to play it for yourself and find out weather it's for you.
I've played many style of games ranging from Lineage II, RF online,
to EQ 2 AoC etc. I found them all enjoyable in their own way.
You can listen to peoples opinions but you wont know until you
yourself play it.

I'll know if they tell me it takes a bazillion years to do anything.

I don't mind if it takes time to do stuff myself as long as it isn't repetitive and boring.
From what I've read they are aiming to where we can reach max level by quests alone.
trying to faze out the grind.
Dunno if that helps you much, but that's what I have gathered on info they have
released.
they are keeping a lot tucked under the coat not releasing the good bits of info everyone wants.

Chime has participated in FGT, I'm not sure about anyone else.

I haven't played personally which is why you see me post up news and stuff, not actual game info. :)

I've played it personally, I keep in contact with quite a few other people who have played it, whether it be the Korean or Western version.

If grind is your primary concern, En Masse has put a strong focus on Westernizing the game which includes the ability to balance exp and questing for Western players. It's definitely not as grindy as many Asian games and has been generally considered reasonable thus far. Whether it will become as quick as WoW is unknown, but they're still in the process of tuning such things.

It seems almost inevitable that it will be compared to WoW but my main hope for this game is that it will be different enough that the comparisons will be strained. The main aspect is how fun it is. Did you/do your friends love the game into itty bitty wittle pieces? (Allowing for beta changes and bugs, of course).

You haven't read/researched much of what they have released about the game have you?

Yes, it's natural that people would compare a new game to other existing major titles. The game is significantly different, but there are some useful comparisons to be made for people concerned about leveling and questing rates, progression style, and whether any of the same or similar systems will also exist in TERA.

Regarding how fun it is... this is basically the most fun MMO that I've personally played because of the action combat system which draws from some of my favorite elements from multiple genres: action RPG, FPS and fighting games. The game feels modern, solid, evolved... the aesthetics are beautiful and polished... and it doesn't feel like it turns into a boring grind... yet. It's active and engaging and that's more than I can say about most other MMOs on on the market currently.

I've not actively looked for information, but I have seen the official video releases and followed articles on major gaming sites. I thought it would be nicer to liven this forum up a little rather than to trawl the internet myself.

Exactly what I wanted to hear. Smiley: thumbsup

Or, read. You know what I mean.

No worries, this forum could definitely use some livening up. Sometimes it is easier to ask for info from a source you respect rather than dig through lots of potential misinformation floating around the net.

Also, that was just my personal opinion, but hopefully it sounds appealing enough that you will give it a shot yourself in the future. It's a game that deserves more players.

For sure. At the moment I'm viewing it as a sort of Peter Moleneux of the MMO world: promises vast innovation but may or may not deliver. My friends and I will almost certainly be giving it a go, we've all got races and classes picked out... although I'm not sure if I wanna go the Lancer or Berserker route personally.

If it would help, I wrote up a melee classes overview and comparison that lines up their different aspects and capabilities next to each other by category. Some other people have told me that they found it helpful for class selection.

I've already read it, and yes it was helpful. ^^ Just haven't quite decided if I want to go DPS or tanking. I'll probably end up tank, as usual. I'm intrigued as to the differences in practice between Tera, WoW and FFXI along with traditional RPGs like Dragon Age. (And yes I already read your article on that, too.) Smiley: tongue

If I thought this game was going to be anything close to WoW I wouldn't be here supporting it.

have you played any action RPGs? there are quite a few games in that genre that might give you a more personal experience with the differences compared to traditional RPGs.

There have been a few testers on the other forum sites say out of all the classes berserker was the most fun, even though they are choosing a different class at launch.

They look like a fun class to play but then again I'm a melee DPS sorta guy =)

they're very sudden and bursty and powerful, I can see why it'd appeal to a lot of people.

I meant for tanking specifically, with regards to other players and defensive strategies. Edit: And also from a personal feel, as I've been tanking in single and multiplayer for nigh on 8 years now and am just interested to see another facet of the skill.

tbh if you've already played some action RPGs with tanking through body blocking, positioning, collision for attacks and projectiles, TERA won't be that different. it's just that most people have only played more typical non-action systems.
