Battletech MMO Please... (was forum=28)Follow

#1 Jun 09 2010 at 5:43 PM Rating: Good
I desperately wish some company would break Microsofts stranglehold on the liscense for all electronic things Battletech.

I'd love to see a MMO version. Something with Full Mech customization and no FPS aspects, instanced tabletop style strategy combats would be my choice. It always annoyed me that the only electronic Battletech I could get was a FPS.

I'll get right on it.

On the list of overly complicated rules systems, Battletech is second only to that one game that has all those tables for **** dilation and vaginal depth.

B-tech? Overly complicated?

Unless you are using the special case rules like how far fire and smoke spreads from the prevailing winds. But those rules have their own tiny special chapter in the book for "Optional Special Case Rules" which are never used in tournament play.

The entire game usually boils down to 2d6, a set# of movement points per turn, and a chart.

You spend your movement points, roll 2d6 and refer to the chart, You don't even roll damage, it's set by the weapon use. When you take damage you fill in dots on your sheet, like a standardized test. You are familiar with those right, little circles that start out empty and you make them not empty with a pencil. That's about as easy as a tabletop game can get. You should try Chill or The Imagine system if you want an actually difficult to play game.

I was apparently too topical to be on the OOT list.

I've never played one of these types of games, but this one is full of lulz and therefore would be worth it.

You've never played 1st edition Twilight:2000 have you?

On the plus side, if you ever want to know how many brass casings you can retrieve after a firefight or how many fish you can kill by throwing a fragmentation grenade into a pond, they've got the rules for it.

Played a text-based Battletech MUD and it is actually pretty good. Quit awhile back though but you control heading, speed, all your weapons, can even get damaged to where it would take 12-25 real life hours for Engineers to fix your mech. Normally end up getting one loaned to you when your main goes down. Anyways back to the topic.

Mech Warrior 4 was released for free a week or two ago. But I have been waiting for a Mech Warrior/Battletech MMO all my life. Either it's in the works now or it's going to take another company to do it themselves. The closest thing MMO wise is Front Mission but that is japanese only. And there's that other mech game on Playstation that I realllly enjoyed. Forget the name of it :/

I had some friends that used to play that. I never sat down for a session but it looked like it had a complexity that made B-Tech look like checkers, lol.

I talked to the guys that revamped the Tabletop version at a con last year and we had a long talk about the possibility of a B-Tech MMO. According to them, Microsoft got the electronic license to make Mechwarrior many years ago and have decided to take an iron fisted approach to their control of the genre. As I understand it, as long as Microsoft owns the license nothing B-tech will ever make it to a non-tebletop market. The setting isn't well known enough for Microsoft to bother developing a game, but they're also ******** who won't let anyone else do it either.

Between the charts and the humor value I'd call this game a ******* child of Rolemaster and Paranoia.

As far as the B-tech thing goes I found battlenet, it has a meiocre version of Tabletop battletech but I could never get it to run right. I just wanna build my old tabletop custom mech and lay waste to others.

Not being nearly nerdy enough to know what half of this thread is even about, I can say that this statement is a lie.

Mechwarrior is not Battletech, it's based on Battletech, but it's vastly different than I'd hope a B-tech MMO would be. Mechwarrior is a twitch game, B-tech is a strategy game. It's like comparing Final Fantasy Tactics and Halo 2, it doesn't really work. Calling me a liar seams a bit strong and more than a little trollish. Perhaps in the future more thought may be in order before finalizing your posts.

Know what table top RPG was the awesomess?

************* Hero Quest.

I used to have epic battles with the pieces & my Lego Pirates & Knights. And every once in awhile, a contingent of army men from the future used to show up. Lead, of course, by Rambo.

This thread makes me tempted to re-install MW4. I can't believe Mektek is still keeping it alive and releasing it free. I wonder how it would look on my modern system... I'm guessing it would be like watching a movie you thought was really good as a kid but realizing now it looks pretty dated.

Would love to see a MechMMO though agreed.

I'll give you that, but that thing had better have jump jets. Death From Above isn't as much fun when you have to fall off a cliff to do it.
