Is it possible transfering HD signal from PC to TV set??Follow

#1 Apr 16 2010 at 2:12 AM Rating: Default
My IBM computer has no HDMI port, which means i have no way to transfer HD signal to TV set. But i wanna watch computer's HD movie with 52" TV displayer. Double checked with IBM office clerk and i was told that only VGA to VGA transferation is workable using the computer. Damn!
I got the good news after searching on line that i need a Signal Converter, which could transfer HD signal from computer to TV set. Well, i am not so clear about the machine(Signal Converter)'s working theory, anybody who have ever used this before? please advice. I found this[img=http://www.sinamalls.com/images/upload/Image/hdv6681.jpg] is this one ok? and which port on computer is VGA port? please i need you guys help.

I don't have an answer, but if no one else here happens to know either, you might get lucky asking again on the Computer Hardware and Troubleshooting forum, which, while slow, is frequented by several knowledgeable folks.

While it is in the wrong forum... Does the computer in question happen to have a video card? If not, which is likely the case given VGA only, your best bet is finding one with Display Port or HDMI that is compatible with your computer. Assuming you are just planning to use it for streaming to TV something as simple as this would work fine. If you plan to use the PC for gaming at all I would suggest this one as a much better buy over all. And if you happen to want the best of the best you could always shill out for the fastest single core GPU presently for about 500 bucks and get the Radeon 5870. Depends on your preferences and what you plan to use the PC for. Also make sure to confirm you motherboard supports PCI-E cards before going with one of those I mentioned above. If you happen to need help figuring it out let me know.

Also VGA is the 15 pin connector your monitor plugs into and looks like this. If you are unsure if your computer has a video card as may likely be the case I can help you figure that out as well.

There are also DVI TO HDMI cables available if you pick a video card with DVI but no HDMI port.

VGA->HDMI converter cables don't magically increase the signal quality coming from your computer, they just send VGA quality signal through an HDMI cable. If you want HDMI quality you need to go pick up a graphics card that doesn't suck.

If you have either a 360 or a PS3 that is hooked up to the same network as your computer you can use one of those to stream HD video to the TV (assuming that you're using an HDMI cable to hook the console to the TV). The only catch is that there a number of video formats that the consoles don't recognize.

Only VGA is already capable of reaching HD resolutions up to 2048 x 1536 @ 85Hz. Given TVs only really go up to 1920X1080 the real drawback is signal quality of analog vs digital signals, that and you won't find a VGA -> HDMI converter that would allow you to display that resolution on a TV. TVs with VGA in allow for display of HD content via VGA if you are unable to use DVI, HDMI or Display Port.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but by using a VGA/DVI to HDMI cable you would not get any sound. Right?

Correct, unless it's a HDMI-HDMI connection with sound you will need a secondary cable for the audio.

Plus after buying that many adapters the Video card I linked for 50 bucks is probly the better buy.

I have a TV and computer that will do both and tried it, it's noticeably sh*ttier quality for the VGA. Besides, the more conversions you do from A to B, the more opportunities you have to accumulate lost data. You can never increase the quality of the signal, all you can do is try to minimalize the decrease.
